Father in law was a retired teacher. In his teaching days he would play this for his students around the holidays. I am happy he had the chance to receive it and see it again before he recently passed away. He was very pleased. I bought him both the VHS and DVD because I read somewhere in other reviews the DVD copy missed some audio, my Father in law did not notice this at all, so coming from someone very familiar with the movie, I would guess the person who had that problem could have had a problem with the copy they purchased.

We just made this marvelous and unexpected discovery. It is such a joy to know there are movies like this out there, gems waiting to be mined out. We watched with our 3.5 year old and were charmed and delighted all the way through. It builds to the most moving ending. Everything a movie should be.

A fun, heartwarming story of a small Skye Terrior who spent his remaining life resting and guarding his master's grave. The tale is true and from the events that are recorded from the mid 1800s in Edinburgh, Scotland. You will be richly blessed by seeing this dramatic tale of one dog, and how he came to be loved by an entire town, for decades and decades.

Disney has taken the account of Bobby, the dog to become known as "Greyfriars Bobby", from the book by the same name written by Eleanor Atkinson, an Indiana author for youth. The DVD Disney film stick closely to the author's account which is known to be a bit of an embellishment to the actual account, making it a bit more dramatic for children. It is a superb story, and a beautiful and exciting film created in the always high quality of any Disney production. This is a true FAMILY FILM, appreciated by all ages--4 to 104 years.

Sets are typical Disney delights, historically accurate, beautifully presented, and worthy of the "CLASSIC" labeling from all aspects of the production.

Let yourself slip back into the 1850's and 1860's of old Edinburgh and experience Greyfriars Bobby and his story firsthand.

Also, pick up the book, Greyfriars Bobby, by Eleanor Atkinson, and gift it to a dog lover or a child. See my 5-star review under books.

Disney At Its Best, With The Master's Touch

I first saw this movie as a child in the early sixties and never forgot it, even though I never saw it again. I came across it again shopping here and ordered it.
What a beautiful, and beautifully made movie! The video quality for VHS was great. This was one of those Disney movies made during their 'golden age' when Mr. Disney was still alive and running his company. It shows. The quality of production, the sets, the luminous quality of the filming, all speak of an integrity and sincerity that are so sadly missing from Eisner's Disney today. I showed this movie to a young child who was unaware that Disney ever made anything this well! She was thinking of the newer, much cheaper movies cranked out by Disney today.
As with many of Walt Disney's old movies, this is a film that can be viewed with pleasure by everyone. I didn't find it corny at all. Of course, this movie was set in the 'olden times' so we wouldn't expect to see modern clothing, etc. anyway. This movie is from a time when adults could watch Disney films right along with the children.
A beautiful, true story, and a treat for any movie fan.

A Wonderful Movie!

I saw this movie when it first came out and have always loved it, It is a heartwarming true story about the undying love of a dog to his master. A dog who slept on his masters grave for 14 years. The township of Greyfriar, Scotland adopted him as their own and everyone cared for and fed him until his passing. My grandchildren love this movie and so will yours!

One of few child appropriate movies out there today.

I purchased this movie because this story was in my son's grammar lesson. We had not heard of it before that. After a quick internet search I found it available in many books or this movie. My son is a teenager and I wanted to choose one of those that even he would enjoy. And he did enjoy watching this movie. I think this movie would be appropriate for any age of a child. When the old man passes away he does so in his sleep. A gentle way for a child to experience the passing of life. I'd give it 5 barks for family friendliness. (reference of plugged in movie review )

Great for the whole family! Wonderful!

Most excellent story, we watch it repeatedly with the closed captioning on because the Scottish accent is strong, but so lovely! If you are of Scotch descent, and/or love dogs, you will truly love this! It's a story about helping each other up & out of poverty, about loyalty, friendship, dedication, love, teaching children to have a good work ethic, and teaching adults to have compassion & remember that we were young once too!

I first saw "Greyfriars Bobby" when I was just 14 years old, it's one of those CLASSIC Disney movies that's stayed with me. It really is a tear jerker, so sit back, with your popcorn and your favorite drink and a big box of tissues. I guarantee this movie will steal your heart.
