A Hallmark Channel original movie. Hoping to spend the holiday relaxing, a travel writer takes a traditional Christmas vacation for the first time. Through a mix up on the rental site, she finds herself double-booked for the holidays with a widower, his young daughter, and mom. What begins as an inconvenience, blossoms into much more.

Our son is a "Dodge Boy"(my mom's fault), and the Dodge Dart he nicknamed Christine is NOT at all like the Dodge car in this film. But, the young girl in this film is exactly like his daughter, and the location, everything is like watching their family videos. The soundtrack is awesome. This is the one movie I have watched many times. Haha, ACTUALLY, gonna order a third one, for an Auntie! Love.
Finally Hallmark released it for purchase ! Best Christmas Movie EVER !

My 1st Hallmark review because I loved it
Verified purchase
I've watched my share of Hallmark movies and this is the first time I've wanted to watch one again as soon as it was over. (I didn't, but I will somewhere down the road.) I love Hallmark because it's clean and romantic so I put up with quite a lot of contrived cheese but this one was refreshingly real. Loved the dialogue, chemistry, and characters!

Travel Writer Meets Widowed Dad at Christmas
Verified purchase
I love this movie - with Brigit Regan, Travis Van Winkle, Teryl Rothery, and more. A well-traveled writer takes a break and books a lovely, rustic cabin in the mountains, only to find that she has unexpected company in the same cabin: a widowed father and his daughter. The holidays provide the perfect backdrop for the writer, whose peripatetic life has precluded her experience of a home-Christmas, and the arrival of the dad and daughter, who have been booked into the same space, creates the perfect opportunity for the start of a possible relationship. This is Hallmark: no violence, no overt sex, just sweet and good natured fun with a bit of uncertainty thrown in for good measure.

This DVD has Closed Caption. That can act as subtitles.

One reviewer mentioned this DVD did not have subtitles. I have hearing problems so I need subtitles too. Most Hallmark DVDs these days have Closed Caption. I bought it with that hope. IT DOES have Closed Captions which is signified by a little "CC" somewhere on the DVD. I won't comment on the content. Many others have said plenty of complimentary things. I agree it's a GREAT movie. Enjoy!

Good (but not great) somewhat formulaic Hallmark Christmas film!
Verified purchase
Emory Blake (Bridget Regan) is a young woman who wants to get married, but instead breaks up with her boyfriend just days before Christmas. She ends up booking a getaway to a Christmas cottage that's also been booked by a young widower (Travis Van Winkle), his cute little daughter (Raven Stewart), and his mother. Initially, of course, this causes confusion, but the man & his family all like Emory and so she stays. And, of course there's another woman who predictably has her sights set on the young widower, but who soon realizes that Emory is better suited for him. It all might have worked better had the chemistry between the two leads been stronger, along with the writing. It's still enjoyable, only I didn't think it was worth five-stars!

Great movie!

This is in one of my "favorite" cats. Good story line; great chemistry with actors; not a "predictable" script. I give this one a "5 star" rating!

Painful to watch
Verified purchase
I like Hallmark movies, in general, and have watched scores of them over the years. Some are excellent. Christmas Getaway had a wholesome, clean storyline which is always welcome in times like these. The main actors were good-looking which is always a plus, and the ending wasn't too bad. But, the positives end there. The acting was atrocious...and not just the secondary actors as in many Hallmark flicks, but the main actors were also bad. The acting was stiff, forced, plastic, falling far short of believable. They failed to convey accurately the emotional responses to the ups and downs they experienced. This is acting 101. The storyline was way too predictable. My wife & I figured out the whole plot after ~10 minutes. There were few surprises and the changes in plans that did occur were far-fetched and way too coincidental. The movie was recommended by a family member so despite wanting to turn it off and watch something else, we stuck it out for their sake. We still can't believe we paid $7.99 to watch it on Amazon! Indeed, it was painful to watch. I think I could find better actors at the local high school drama club. I generously give this one a 2.4 out of 5.

Cute Hallmark movie
Verified purchase
Cute story. Good cast. Good chemistry. Typical Hallmark movie. The leads both decide to take a break from their normal lives during the Christmas holiday (she just broke up with a guy and he's a widower with a child trying to get away from people fixing him up). A mishap with a computer accidentally books them for the same cabin at the same time. At first they don't like each other, but through their shared adventures and the magic of Christmas, they fall in love. The female lead and the guy's daughter bond over shared interests. The guy's mom also seems to find romance herself with a local gentleman. Love the cabin they rent. Good, relaxing, romantic Christmas movie. The part about the almond in the pudding seemed at bit out of place or it needed to be better explained.
