Dont expect any of that

Well its not very good, and its not very bad. Its not very profound, and its not venal. None of the performances are outstanding, nothing goes deeper, and you will likely turn it off fifteen minutes before then end, and neither care nor miss out.

A Boring Movie About Sex(?)
Verified purchase
First, this movie is only peripherally about sex. Not that I was expecting porn, but this large cast of highly repressed British people scarcely discuss anything. They all seem to be so bad at communication, that the reason this movie is as long as it is, is because nobody can simply say what they're talking about. They infer and suggest and cut short statements without getting to a point. No one in this movie is, or ends up happy. And Brexit is still years away!!!

Two Stars for Hardy
Verified purchase
I disregarded the poor reviews because I thought: how bad could this possible be with a cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Mark Strong, Tom Hardy, Sophie Okonedo, etc... Pretty abysmal, actually. The film is a big yawn that tries way too hard to be charming and clever. Ewan McGregor was acceptable (whereas usually he is exceptional). I had to skip the Hugh Bonneville/Gina McKee vignette altogether. I find them boring enough separately; together they are excruciatingly. Save yourself the pain and just watch the 15 or so minutes Tom Hardy is on screen. Believe me, everything else is a waste of your time.

I Really Liked This Movie
Verified purchase
Yes, the title was a little misleading, but it was no unrelated to the movie content and subject matter. I thought the vignettes were well done and even better yet, refreshing and actually very realistic. It dives into the realisms and fantasies involving the infallible concept of love met with the starkly fallible reality of human existence. Will definitely go onto my list of favorite movies watched this year!

All the "sexual nature" is theoretical
Verified purchase
What a waste of perfectly good talent. Almost all of the potential for romance, let alone sex, is absolutely theoretical. Even skipping ahead 10 seconds at a time, it was more or less ghastly. It reminds me of a bit of verse: "sleeps, but rests not; loved, but was loved not; never lived, and died alone."

Subtle delight

Shame on the reviewer for not writing Spoiler Alert in one review! Most others are solid critique.
I am only adding this bit because I have seen the film twice and now find I want it in my collection. In the second viewing I found subtlties I missed on first viewing. I appreciated the depth of the characters. I noted that the "strange" exchange between Anna and Noel was made much more comprehensible when I figured out the final scene, which is run through the credits, so don't turn it off too soon! Tom Hardy -- does he do anything poorly? -- and his canine pal made me burst out laughing.
I loved the way the vignettes are unpredictable -- and unforgettable. This is a delightful film appreciable on many levels. Got to have it in my collection. BTW, does anyone know if the film earned any awards?

Beyond Awful

A reviewer wrote" A boring moving about sex". It's worse than than that. It's insultingly dull, thick with stereotypical characters, tired dialog and insanely uninteresting plot lines. A waste of time.
