Blog postNothing gets a reader’s palms sweating, nerves tingling, and heart racing like a well-crafted action scene. Even if you don’t write thrillers, don’t let that stop you from including a jaw-dropping action sequence in your next novel. Now I know some of you might be thinking—”Hey, Brian, that sounds great but I’m not a military […]

Blog postBy Ward Larsen
Researching a novel can be a daunting proposition. Any author with a few books under their belt will have stories about reviewers who bring up inaccuracies. Some of these critiques are spot on, others dead wrong. A few fall in the murky middle—details you could have explained more concisely, or that were used out of context. Perfection isn’t realistic. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book, including my own, in which some small error hasn’t slipped through. That said, it3 months ago Read more -

Blog postThe Thrill of the Pace: Creating a book that readers can’t put down by Boyd Morrison
Readers today have a finite amount of time and an explosion of different entertainment options. As a thriller author, my competition for readers’ attention isn’t just other books. With a smart phone in every person’s pocket, my real competition is Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, Xbox, Candy Crush, and Fortnite. If my reader’s mind wanders because they’re bored with the story, it’s easy5 months ago Read more -
Blog postHow to Beat Writer’s Block – 7 Tips from the Trenches by Brian Andrews
Whether you’re writing your first novel or your twenty-fifth, at some point during your writer’s life you will find yourself staring at a blinking cursor on your computer screen and wondering why the words have stopped flowing. It might happen gradually, like a car coasting to a stop after running out of gas, or it might be abrupt, like slamming into an invisible brick wall. Either way, when it happens, you’ll kno5 months ago Read more -

Blog postRacing to Get the Words on the Page: Writing Sprint Exercises
by Glen Erik Hamilton
For such an intellectual pursuit, it’s amazing how much the act of writing can depend on getting parts of our minds to stopthinking. If you have trouble getting your inner editor to quiet down, or if you just want to complete that first draft faster, writing sprints may for you.

But for all their uniqueness and diversity, they have much more in commo6 months ago Read more -

Blog postThe Mantle of Character By Brian Andrews
When I served as a US Naval Officer, my professional competence, my capabilities, and most importantly my integrity was on display twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year. Every decision I made, every order I gave, and every interaction with a superior or subordinate was observed by my fellow crewmembers up and down the chain of command. To wear the uniform meant, at a minimum, I was obligated to strive to embody the7 months ago Read more -
