In this delightful short story of about 60 pages, when debutante Felicity Reginald impersonates the ghost of a willful 18th-century beauty at a Christmas house party in 1856, she is embarking on a dangerous masquerade. The real specter is hungry for life—and when she steps into Felicity’s skin, nobody, least of all dashing Sir James Darrington, is prepared for what happens next. James and Felicity must overcome the bitter misunderstanding that has kept them apart in order to solve the mystery and save Felicity before the ghost’s growing influence takes over entirely. Prepare yourself for spooky chills, charming romance, and “DeWees’ signature witty repartee” (Volatilisanguis, Amazon reviewer) in this fun-filled short story starring Felicity Reginald, first seen in Sea of Secrets, winner of the 2012 RONÉ Award in mystery.
Fans of traditional gothic romance in the tradition of Mary Stewart, Victoria Holt, and Barbara Michaels will delight in what reviewers are calling “a beautiful, haunting tale filled with twists and turns” (Caitlyn, Amazon reviewer) and “a thoroughly enchanting story of romance, betrayal, secret passageways, and ghostly occurrences” (Darrell, Goodreads). And if this is your first time exploring Amanda DeWees’s Victorian gothic works, you won’t want to miss a single one of her other books in the genre.

In the late nineteenth century, a vampire did not always take the form of a nightmarish ghoul. Rather, it might come in the guise of a pleasure-loving woman of independent means, an enigmatic aristocrat, or even a woman afire with righteous wrath. Enter the world of the Victorian Vampires series, where award-winning author Amanda DeWees takes you on a journey rife with mystery, romance, and the unexpected. Here, for the first time, all three novellas in the series are gathered together in one set.
As Vital as Blood
When poor but plucky Englishwoman Michael Cargrave travels to the Carpathian Mountains to catalogue the library of a mysterious baron, she stumbles into danger and romance.
As Strong as Earth
Vivacious vampire Bianca leads a carefree existence until she falls in love with Ned Alter, a mortal man who is already engaged—and whose family are vampire hunters.
As Fierce as Flame
Impetuous Rosamond Cargrave rebels against the proper path for a young lady, unaware that the legendary vampire Wulfgar is gathering all his kindred in London—and one of them is particularly close to Rosamond.
Once you’ve read one, you won’t want to miss a single volume in the Victorian Vampires series!
Book 2 in the Victorian Vampires novella series by the author of the Daphne Award-winning gothic romance With This Curse. Just as Ned Alter leaves the British army to marry the lovely Rosamond Cargrave, his father and uncle inform him that he has a new mission--as a vampire hunter. Ever since Ned's grandmother was bitten decades ago, the Alter men have sought revenge. But soon Ned's loyalty is tested by a beautiful woman named Bianca, who claims to be a vampire...and therefore the enemy of his family.
Carefree vampire Bianca had no intention of seducing another woman's fiancé, especially when he's a mortal. Yet she and Ned share a passionate connection. Can Bianca convince him that she is not his enemy--and can he convince her that a mortal and a vampire can find happiness together? A love triangle, revenge, and undying evil collide in this unforgettable vampire yarn of about 100 pages, laced with rich period atmosphere and Amanda DeWees's sly humor. And be sure not to miss the other novellas in the Victorian Vampires series, As Vital as Blood and As Fierce as Flame!
In 1881, an innocent young Englishwoman who ventures into mysterious Baron Dalca’s Romanian castle may lose her life, her soul...or her heart.
Miss Michael Cargrave is desperate when the death of her bookseller father leaves her in a dire financial state. When she finds a letter from a mysterious foreign aristocrat, Baron Dalca, requesting that her father come work for him, she decides to risk everything by traveling to the Carpathian Mountains and claiming the position herself.
Vasile, Baron Dalca, expected an elderly gentleman scholar. Instead he finds on his doorstep a vibrant, courageous young woman who stirs him in a way that no woman has since the long-ago death of his wife. But for her sake, he can’t fall in love. He can bring nothing but danger to Michael Cargrave.
As Vital as Blood combines gothic suspense with a haunting love story in the exciting setting of the Carpathian Mountains. And be sure not to miss the next Victorian Vampires novella, in which carefree vampire Bianca travels to Bath, England, and becomes entangled with Ned Alter, a mortal whose family has a legacy of hunting vampires.
These stories run the gamut in setting and time, from traditional Victorian ghost stories to all too contemporary tales of terror. This is an anthology to be read by the fireside on cold nights with the wind howling at the windows. Or just in your favorite spot.
