For vocabulary, use an electric flash card system on your phone or computer to memorize words, not the book. Then use this book to test yourself.
For math, figure out your weaknesses and use the book to drill those sections.
The questions that show up on the actual GRE were very similar to the practice book. I will admit however that the actual GRE test FELT way harder. I honestly thought I bombed the test, so I was relieved to find out I scored higher than I had expected.
I would recommend this book to study! It’s a pain in the butt to carry around but it gets the job done. Good luck!
Highly recommend doing vocab flash cards before doing chapters 3 & 4 (Magoosh has a nice app), otherwise you might feel like you are going to fail the vocab section like me! After doing the app I looked back and it seemed much easier.
Highly recommend this book! Kept track of my studying and it took about 40 hours to go through the entire book (excluding essay practice) once, with looking at right answers and making corrections!
- Exhaustive book covering every single math concept on the GRE
-Each chapter starts with easy questions and gradually gets more difficult when you approach Q20 and above!
-explanation are in the back but sometimes I had to look online for additional explainations.
-Really helped me understand how I was poorly prepared and after spending a month or so studying 4-5 hours a day, My math really improved
-VERY CLEARLY LAYED OUT
-really heavy so looking for a solution to a problem can get annoying.
- I did not care for the online service. Super annoying that you cannot advance to any lesson you want, You have to actually do the prior chapters if u want to unlock the more advanced material.
- The verbal section is absolutely awful. I DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR VERBAL PRACTRICE. This book EXCELS at Math but is terrible for verbal learning in my opinion.
This book really helped me get on track and taking a chapter a day is a great approach, if you travel frequently and take your work with you, the E-book will be a much better experience than lugging around a 5 lb book when you only need to study a specific chapter. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND FOR QUANT
The math sections are the best part since it's very comprehensive and leaves no stone unturned. There are some abnormally difficult math questions, it prepares you mentally for the few tough questions on the real GRE.
The Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension sections are pretty good comprehensive too. In general, these sections are very grindy since you need to memorize a lot of words and hack through the flowery language of the reading paragraphs. It's good training for the real thing. But I would still recommend doing the Verbal sections from the official GRE book and old GRE tests (freely available on the internet).

As I started to go thru the middle of the book, trickier and tricker questions started to appear and the explanations were even tricker to decipher. Another issue is the vocabulary section, I didnt even understand the definitions for 2-3 of the 6 choices given. You would need a section in the book that would lay out all or most of the GRE vocabulary for memorization purposes. After reading thru this whole book, I feel like I will get below 10 percentile.
