Vintage Orange County, CA. Vintage murder mystery on an epic level.

Although I've enjoyed Parker's work from previous novels, this one was truly exceptional. Not only was I there inside this story--I grew up in Orange County in the 60s and 70s--but I was spellbound by the multi-dimensional plotline. Parker's depictions and combined characterizations of his players and the area were spot on. The book brought me back to the same orange groves and parts of the county I worked, lived, and cruised through for forty years. Parker aced this fine work on both his compelling characters and the fine details of procedure in everything he depicted: police and FBI procedures; the rise of the evangelical movement in central Orange County, Chuck Smith, Robert Schuler, Paul Crouch, et al, (although not mentioned by name); the hippy, yippy, drug culture of Leary and the hidden gay culture inside the unlike Libertine Laguna Beach inside conservative Orange County. Good form, Mr. Parker. Count me as a fan.
