Message Misses the Mark

As huge, longtime fans of Pete and his books we were thoroughly disappointed with this one.
While the intended take away of having a positive attitude is nice, the poor example of friendship is not one that I want for my toddler.
In the book, Pete decides to draw three different pictures for each of his friends. He is naturally excited to share the drawings with these friends, but loses faith in his abilities when they each pick apart something with his gifted illustration.
What a terrible example of ‘friendship’! The lesson I think even more valuable here than to be positive is that it is important to show appreciation when someone has been thoughtful and generous towards you.
These characters are not the kinds of friends I hope for my child nor the kind of friend I wish him to be. If you’re new to Pete look elsewhere to get started. If you’re on the fence for adding this book to your collection, I’d skip it.
