I can't think of another author right now that writes about family and friendships as well as she does. While there is a bit of a romance the core of the story is about family, and bringing everyone back together again.

We start with Caitlin, who is getting married and determined to renew the family from her childhood that fell apart three years ago. She cons/convinces Maze, Heather and Walker to spend the week before her wedding at her house to rebuild.

They are all foster siblings, who spent 1 year with Caitlin and her parents until tragedy struck. Everything that had to do with the tragedy hit me in the feels, it was so sad and seeing them each work through their part in what happened had me teary eyed.

I loved each and every one of them, it was impossible not to. They're all so different, but you know they desperately need each other and Caitlin bringing them together was the best thing for them. The road wasn't always easy though. Heather came with new secrets. Maze and Walker and working through their history. And Caitlin is struggling with her wedding to Dillon.

If families, friendship and love are your thing I highly recommend The Forever Girl. It will hit you in the feels and you will have no regrets.

3.0 out of 5 starsNice storyline but too much information to follow

There was so much information about characters, I couldn't follow well and couldn't figure out who the main hero and heroine were until almost the end. A good story line but hard to follow.

no major surprises. Did show the results of modern state child care systems abilities turn out screwed up adults. Even here, too much of a fairytale ending. Again, not a complete waste of time.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Forever Girl: A Novel (The Wildstone Series Book 6)
Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2021
I’ve had this story read and ready to review for a while now, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to say what I wanted to say without 1) going into details that would give away the plot and 2) sounding like I didn’t like/enjoy the book. But time is up and it is release day so …

I’m not to sure this story even comes close to romance fiction, even tho there is a romantic element, because it is overshadowed by everything else that is happening in the book. If you’re a Shalvis fan and have read this series in particular in the past, then you should know there is going to be at least two main focus journeys with maybe a few other secondary ones floating by in the background. I am one of those fans LOL I don’t think this woman has a published book I haven’t read. The problem I had with this book’s storylines is that in order to be told in depth enough, a novel the size of Moby Dick is needed. If you don’t get the reference, I can’t help you LOL In other words, for me, it felt like too much was happening and not enough was being focused on so everything just seemed to be skimmed.

I really loved this story and what it could have been, but what it was, was very disappointing to a super fan like myself. See, it sounds like I didn’t enjoy the read, but I did! It just had the potential to be so much more and quite frankly, Shalvis has the ability for far better.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable read!

3.5 stars. What a great story! I really enjoyed the characters and their journey. Shalvis' snarky dialogue was in full force and I found myself at certain points actually laughing out loud at her witty sarcasm.

It's funny... Wildstone isn't my favorite series by Shalvis as I've much preferred "Heartbreaker Bay", "Lucky Harbor", and "Animal Magnetism". However, this book is a potential re-read as it has all the best elements of Shalvis' writing: snarky dialogue, likeable characters, satisfyingly annoying baddies, and a HEA.

NOTE: Although part of a series, this story can be read as a stand-alone.

Some profanity and a few PG love scenes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2021
I think I like Jill Shavis better when she's being hysterically funny. There was nothing wrong with this book which is more women's lit than romance (there is romance, but it's pretty serious). It's a quick read with some interesting characters. Maze is a little whiney, but she does grow up some. Walker is fine, but the Caitlin/Dillon stuff was just sad. I really wanted more about Heather, Sammie, and Jace because I found their romance (Heather is the single mother of Sammie and her romance is with Jace - I realized how weird that sentence sounded) the most interesting.
There are angst and drama and some real tragedy, and it's all fine, a quick read, but not my favorite.

3.0 out of 5 stars The feels!
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2021
This book was a much more somber read that her other Wildstone books (sidenote: I'm more a fan of her Lucky Harbor and Heartbreaker Bay books). Four people have a bond from a tragic event as teenagers (Caitlin's brother died in a house fire while Heather, Maze and Walker were all foster children in her parents care). The foursome had a tight bond, but over the years things got strained, including one big thing between Maze and Walker.
They are gathering for Caitlin's wedding weekend and Caitlin is attempting to mend their bond.
The idea of the story was good, and it had token Shalvis wit, charm and feels, but this narrative circled a little too much for me. I would would have liked some things to have been more fleshed out than other events being rehashed.
That being said, I still really enjoy Jill Shalvis books, this one just wasn't my favorite.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mix of Romance, Humor and Family
Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2021
Once again Jill wrote a book filled with humor, romance and family. The storyline and characters were well developed.

Although Maze and Walkers love story was interesting I didn't really connect with their love story. I however did enjoy the story that Jill wrote between Cat, Heather, Maze and Walker as a family. In addition, I really enjoyed the love story between Heather and Maze's boss that Jill was building. I actually could see her doing a novella maybe. :) Their love story flowed more smoothly in my opinion. I would have rather read more about them.

I wouldn't say this is my all time favorite book of Jill's but it was definitely worth a read for those that like contemporary romance with family drama & humor added in. Can't wait to read her next release.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a great read

The story line was a good storyline. The characters were well described and I like the way the author brought you into their lives. The 4 main characters were raised together. 4 if them are foster children. They cell have a bond to each other. Somewhere towards the middle I found it boring

3.0 out of 5 stars A book full of love
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2021
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads recently. I've never read a book by Jill Chablis before, so wasn't sure what to expect. I found the plot to be somewhat predictable, but enjoyed the characters a lot, many of whom grew up as foster children. I liked this book, which is a genre I don't typically read.

I always preorder Jill Shalvis books, and this was no exception. I understood the premise of the foster children all meeting up as adults ( though they had only been together for one year) and enjoyed the development of the story, though occasionally I found it difficult to keep the various threads together. I didn’t understand why young Michael was elevated to almost saint like status, given the he was much younger than the teenagers. I understand this was more women’s fiction than Shalvis’ light romances but it didn’t do it for me.
