5.0 out of 5 starsMy Favorita Susan Mallery Book
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2014
I bought this book after Christmas about six years ago, and I ended up re-reading it a few times, and just bought it again for my kindle (I'm slowly in the process of moving all my paperbacks to e-books). This is my absolute favorite Susan Mallery book! I wish she would continue the series, and write more for the Buchanans.

I think this book has a bit of everything. There's romance, passion, love, family, loyalty, and devotion. It's Dani's story and starts out with a bang, if you ask me :) It opens with Dani trying to see the Senator, who she thinks may be her biological father, and his oldest adopted son, Alex, is the gate keeper (or "dragon boy") and won't let her by. Mark Canfield does, in fact, turn out to be her biological father. He is probably the only part of the story I don't like, but the author wrote him this way. He's sort of distant from his family, and his wife in 100% hopelessly devoted in love with him, even after several years of marriage. It's a bit unequal relationship.

Soon Alex and Dani are fighting sexual tension, and hot smoldering kisses turn into something more - something that neither expected. I think they are a great match for each other, and have much in common with family loyalty and wanting to protect those that they love. Alex's ex-wife had cheated on him, but he doesn't mention it to his family because he doesn't want them to know that she only married him for his name and money. His pride got in the way, but I think it's a reasonable explanation.

Katherine, Mark's wife and Alex's adopted mom was truly a wonderful character. Another reviewer said that she was hoping for them to divorce, and I actually agree with that comment. She does her duty as a political wife, even if it makes her unhappy. In the end, Mark does work to make his family happy and healthy, but he's still a jerk (in my own opinion, lol!). Katherine also adopted special needs children, because she truly loves these kids.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop in a moment. I've mentioned many characters, and not just the hero and heroine. It's a book about family and has several POVs, so you get a glimpse of what's going on outside of the hero and heroine dynamic. I really liked that aspect of the book. I was already in love with the Buchanan family, but I fell in love with the Canfields too. Faults and all!

I like Dani, the heroine. Her relationship with her grandmother, Gloria, was pretty awful (Gloria being a total witch) in the first 3 books. Gloria has seen the light in the 3rd book and tries to repair all the damage she as done to the relationships with her 4 grandchildren. The premise of this book is that Dani searches for her biological father who just happens to be contemplating a run for the President. The chaos that ensues is predictable but for some reason Dani is surprised. I don't quite understand her surprise. Then the relationship with Alex, the adopted son of her biological father, also throws the campaign into a tailspin (which I don't quite understand..it's not as if they are related, really). The whole book is not really believable to me. I do like Susan Mallery's writing style so it made the book readable (if that makes sense).

I enjoyed myself while reading this book. One is about the change in Gloria. I mean she's been an ass in book 1 and 2. And when she somehow start to change in book 3, I'm still trying to adjust my opinion of her. Then in this book 4, I like the way she and Dani bond. They eat popcorn together and watch Dani's dad campaign interview video. And I like how Gloria speak. How she support Dani and finally playing the role of a Grandmother.
I've always like Dani. I think she's strong and not a person who quit halfway. I like her in book 1 already. And she worked hard to gain Gloria recognition. And this final book, I like how she still continue to work hard. I enjoy the fighting scenes she had with Alex in the early stage. Whereby she called him the dragon boy. Anyway, this book is entertaining. Not much of a villain in the book. Yes, there is a witch. You have to read to find out who is the witch.

I was disappointed that this last story was not a part of the bundle because that seems to emphasize the fact that the grandmother did not see Dani as a true Buchanan. Apparently her mother had had an affair with a U. S. Senator and Dani was the result. Gloria Buchanan really punished her for her mother's "sin." The story of Dani takes a strange turn when she finds her real father funning for President of the United States. How Dani. her father, his wife, and all of the adopted children of the father relate to each other is touching and thought provoking. Probably the one detail which gave me anxiety was the fact that the adopted son of her father becomes Dani's love and fiancé. I know there is no blood relationship, but I really had to think about my issues with this.

The entire series is a good one and worth reading for a most enjoyable time.

I love Susan Mallery and this book continues the tradition of being a totally enjoyable read with characters we come to care for and the choices they make. The only reason I gave it only four stars was because the idea a man considering a presidential run, a man who had yet to be in a primary could have children who could engender such interest from the press, just does not ring true. Still, it is a fun novel for "escape" reading!

I want you to know as I finish the last book in this series that you are my bestest most favorite author of all times. Don't get attached to that title though, I'm very fickle. I Love authors and the written word so my loyalties change regularly. You also are queen of one liners. I love that I can be totally engrossed in an impassioned paragraph one moment and wiping years of laughter the next. Than you for sharing your incredible talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fitting conclusion to the Buchanan series
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2007

In the previous Buchanan books, it was revealed that Dani Buchanan was the result of an affair her mother had with Senator Mark Canfield, which is what caused the rift between Dani and family matriarch (and grandmother) Gloria. As Dani tries to meet her birth father, his adoptive son (and campaign manager) Alex won't let her in to meet the presidential candidate without a legitimate reason. When she drops the bombshell, Mark is accepting, while Alex and the rest of the campaign staff try to keep the revelation under wraps. Mark's long suffering wife Katherine, who was never able to bear children but adopted a brood of eight, feels that Dani is the ultimate slap in the face. When the media breaks the story, Katherine must put on the stoic face and accept Dani. When Alex and Dani act on their attraction to each other, the media catches them in an uncompromising position, adding further problems for Mark's bid for the White House, particularly when they start to fall in love.

The Buchanan brothers and the wives are back and support Dani's quest to find her birth father, while still considering her a genuine Buchanan, as Alex's ex-wife Fiona connives to break the couple apart. Also on hand is Gloria who is completely out of character, and supportive of the granddaughter she treated like crud for the first three novels. Mallery has penned a sensual and great conclusion to the Buchanan saga (after the misstep with "Sizzling") despite not remaining true to Gloria's character and an implausible request of her husband on Katherine's part.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok ending to the series

The Buchanan Saga series was fun to read. The first three books went into depth when portraying the charaters and discovering who they were and that always kept me reading to find out more about them. Tempting on the other hand was a bit of a let down. While I wanted to know what the author had in store for the last sibling, it was a let down compared to the other books. I felt as though the author was bored or tired of the series and wrote a quick ending for the last sibling. I enjoyed finishing the book to put the series to an end but it was a dissapointing read.
