Daisy Bristol, the widowed Lady Chatwick, has come to the Scottish Highlands to escape the fortune hunters who are courting her. She must marry soon or lose her entire fortune. She needs to consider her young son, Ellis. He's her world. When her first love, Robert, contacts her and wants to offer for her, she's elate but her time at Auchenard Lodge, changes her as well as Ellis. Can she trust Robert? Will necessity force her to return to England and follow her late husband's dictates? Or is her true love here? Daisy is a refreshing character. She's a force of nature who wants to experience life and find happiness. I didn't want her to be used by men to gain power and wealth. She deserves better. I enjoyed her flirtation with her neighbor, Laird Arrandale. He has no love for the Sassenach and wants Daisy gone, but their chemistry is amazing. Their battle of wills and flirtatious banter drew me in. I knew that these two are soulmates. Cailean Mackenzie is stubborn. He won't admit that he cares. I wanted to shake him. I know that he was hurt before, but he needed to move on. I wanted them together. With so many problems I wasn't sure there would be a HEA. Julia London kept me up late. I couldn't put down Sinful Scottish Laird. I loved the larger than life characters, the rugged setting and the passionate romance. I fell in love with Cailean. He's a true hero. I'm loving The Highland Grooms series.

Was disappointed in this story. Not enough interaction between the 2 main characters. To much just thinking of each other and usually same thoughts, just said in different ways.

Highland Grooms Book Two

On her way to the Scottish Highlands Daisy Bristol, Lady Chatwick, runs into the alluring Cailean Mackenzie. At first her party believes him to be a highwayman, but he leaves them with all of their money and persons in tact. Daisy is on a mission to find peace until her first true love can return to London and claim his place as her new husband. She must marry within the year in order for her son to retain his inheritance. However, after being reunited with Robert Spivey, she begins to suspect he might not be the man she had believed him to be. How can she love a man who treats her son like a burden?

If you're looking for a tale of the Highlands where truth isn't always what it seems, this is the book for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written but perhaps a bit short on H/h chemistry

Julia London writes so well that I normally have her on "auto-buy" but for some reason this series escaped my notice, so I'm late to this party... But I really enjoyed this story. There is a great sense of setting and of the times (though sometimes it seemed we might have slipped into the following century a bit...) and the romance was lovely. I am not sure what was missing but there was a bit of a lack of chemistry between H/h and other characters were not totally explained (like her son -- why was he such a sickly child? why did he get better so fast? I missed something there.) That said, it was a good read even if I won't read it again.

This romance story makes me wish I lived in that era. It takes you back in time and you feel as if you were a character, not the reader alone.
That makes it a good reading, forget the dinner or lunch for that matter, book! The scenery of the land almost makes me want to jump on the next plane and see it for myself!

4.0 out of 5 stars London is entertaining, as always

Every once in a while I need to immerse myself in a well-written historical romance. Quite often, Jul. London is my go-to author - her novels are easy to read (quick and well thought out) and entertaining. The heroine is strong, the romance steamy and the storyline flows well.

I liked the story and the characters. I was disappointed in the ending. The ending felt rushed and unfinished.

Here is Lady Daisy, widow, age 29 and English - meets laird Chilean Mackenzie, age 35 and sparks fly. 'Laird' means Scottish landlord and is a family name, in my family. I enjoyed their story.

Love London's stories. I like her storylines and the characters she creates. I love her heroes most of all. I want a Highlander too!! Can't wait for the next book.

The print was small so not as easy to read, but I enjoy stories about Scotland.

4.0 out of 5 stars Betrayal at its worst. With her family and caretakers
Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2017

Julia London is one of those authors who knows how to hook you in the historical genre. She breathes life into the setting and characters so that you are transported to a different place and time.

Her latest novel follows a widow on a trek to from London to Scotland trying to temporarily escape the confines and suitors that her late husband's will impose on her. Although the marriage was an arranged one, she was dutiful and caring and thought her marriage evolved into a loving, respectful relationship. After her husband dies, she finds out that her role was more about providing an heir and that her late husband did not believe her capable of making decisions about her son's future. Thus, the will required she marry within 3 years or lose her son's inheritance. Betrayal at its worst.

With her family and caretakers, she embarks on a trip to a far off and little used property to escape and ponder her fate. Throw in a long lost love from her youth, a wild and handsome Scottish man with his own responsibilities and issues, a little bit of smuggling, London's ability to transport you to places and times unseen, and you will find that hook that will make any rainy day pass rather quickly.

I rate it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
