8-year old grandson loves it

We read daily via Facetime; Beverly Cleary is a winning choice for reading together. He adores the stories and often asks for reading time to be extended. They are fun to read, but I often notices things that don't jibe with modern times. For example, in the first chapter of this book, Henry's mother is inserting metal stretchers into a pair of slacks for wrinkle-free drying, 8-year-old Henry rides the bus (with transfers!) to town alone, he makes phone calls from a booth for a dime, and (this caused a lot of discussion) he rides to the dump while sitting In an old tub in a trailer. And the kid has a paper route. SO MUCH TO EXPLAIN to a modern child. All that said, this book is a classic and we are loving it.
