Such wonderful rhymes!

Purchased this largely to preserve the option to read it to my grandchildren yet unborn, before some obnoxious cancel culture zealots come for this one, too. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the rhymes and characters in this book since childhood, particularly the Hinkle Horn Honkers and the Bumble Tub Club! Enjoy while you can!

Zero stars for Kindle ebook format

I simply adore Dr Seuss books and "The Sleep Book" us one of my favorites. HOWEVER the formatting on this Kindle ebook is so small that it is virtually impossible to read. Sure my eyes are old and tired but if my 5 yr old can't make out the letters then there is a huge problem. And there is no way to adjust the font size. Five stars for Dr Seuss....ZERO STARS to Kindle formatting.

I bought this book ten years ago for my granddaughter who was staying with us for a few months. She always got a bit fussy and would be adamant she was NOT tired. So, after all the teeth brushing was done (We nicknamed her bathroom 'Herkheimer Falls' after the falls in the book.) I read this book every night and she almost always fell asleep before the ending.

I learned early on to turn the lights down to minimum, put on some soft classical music and to read normally at the beginning. After we got to the Who's asleep score I started reading in a softer voice, getting ever more quiet. Between the ambiance & the wonderful imaginative rhymes
and the rolling cadence of the rhymes they can't help themselves How long do they want this bedtime ritual? My granddaughter just turned 11 and either her dad or I read it to her. (I got one for him after he got settled in a home near by).

With the arrival of a new grandson I figured I'd better get a new one; the old one is getting pretty worn.

Great bedtime book. My favorite part of the book is when the contagious yawns start spreading. The book provides a news update as everyone begins to fall asleep. As the books continues the count of sleeping creatures grows. I love this because often children don't want to go to sleep because they fear they are missing out on all the fun. The book informs the reader that everyone else is pretty much asleep, so they might as well join in. Charming, book. However, I would recommend it for children who are maybe 3 and up. My daughter is 2 and I struggled to keep her attention. She does better with 4-6 words per page (Go Dog Go or Ear Book).

Update: To help with the attention span I only read the first two lines of each page. She LOVES it. She calls it the YAWN book. :) As we read it, she starts yawning. By the end she jumps into bed and says "Good night." I caught her "reading" it during her nap today. :)

Oh my goodness! I can not say enough good about this book! It works wonders. It probably took 10 times of reading it before I actually got to the end of the book - my child and I would both fall asleep first! My kids, now half grown, still love to hear it. I always include this book in gifts for new moms and dads. My grown daughter took one to a youth camp she was working at all summer. She read it to whichever cabin she was in charge of for the night, and always had her cabin asleep before any of the other staff did. Once they found out her secret, the book was apt to disappear come night time! It is well worth buying and having either for your own kids or grandkids, or for gifts to others.

"This book is to be read in bed" are the words you will find in the beginning of this book. It starts off with a little bug that yawns and then rhymes along with random silliness about going to sleep. I read this to my son for bedtime last night, and as with all Dr Seuss books, he laughed at me reading it. Words that are made up, as well as creatures, it's a great bedtime book.

My son asked me a couple times "What's that?" when I said the name of a critter in the book and then we took time to make up our own life story of certain creatures. One of which my son decided only ate cream cheese....but it weighted minus one pound. *sigh* If only that were true. ;)

This book can be just a bedtime story, or a fun activity before bed. you decide. It's a little long so it may not keep a really young child's interest, but it's still worth trying.

I had never heard of this Dr Seuss book! (I know, I know...) My daughter loves reading Dr Seuss books and we read them frequently for our nightly bedtime story. So when I was in search of a new one, this was an absolutely perfect fit! It's a tad longer than all of our other Dr. Seuss books and QUITE the tongue twister! This first time I read it was pretty funny. My daughter loves reading this book and she always asks for "the Sleep Book" when settling into her bed. It seems to truly work with putting the idea of sleep in her head and calms her down.

This is a little different from the usual Dr Seuss book. It is actually designed to put your children to sleep with its constant yawning. Just remember to read it slowly. The biggest side effect is that you will start yawning yourself, which encourages the children to yawn.

The kids had just about worn out the copy my parents got for me in the 70's, so I bought this as a replacement. Same size as the original, cover is a little thinner, not quite as sturdy as the old one in my opinion. Pages are glossier than the original. Overall I am happy with the purchase.
