The Secret to Making the Llghts Work

Just as many others commented on here, I at first thought the book we received either had dead batteries or was malfunctioning, as the lights didn't work on the last page. Thanks to another review I found here with one tiny hint, our book now works fantastically (with the original batteries). There is a tiny button black button (blends in very well with the sky colors) on the top left of the last page...press it (it took me 2 tries to "release it" - it was a spring-like action) and the lights will work without fail every time you open the last page thereafter.

I was so excited to find the book I read to my children when they were little. They were delighted when the fireflies on the last page lit up! I couldn't wait for my new grand daughter to have the book. THIS IS NOT THAT BOOK! I have no idea why the reviews all talk about how to turn on the fireflies on the last page. This is a children's reader. Anyone have any idea where I can find the book I want??

I have used Eric Carle books with young children for many years. The graphics and language are wonderful.
One day I watched two dog friends playing on either side of the fence, and pushing toys under the fence to share.
The dogs were having a wonderful time playing and running, with only a chain link fence separating them.
In the neighboring yards preschool and school age children had no one to play with or share toys.
As adults we need to consider how the coronavirus has affected us and work towards finding a solution to prevent this from ever happening again. International politicians need to research the cause and effect, to ensure we are ONE World. Eric Carle has a magic touch when writing books for children . Let us enjoy them together

The final page is supposed to light up. Mine did not so I bought new 1.5 v batteries figuring those that were installed were dead or faulty. Unfortunately the batteries in the book are much thinner than what I have been able to locate and you cannot screw the battery cover back in place. If you install the thicker ones. More expensive to return than it's worth. Disappointed, it was to go into a gift bag with a baby shower present tomorrow .

My toddler daughter was afraid of flies so I got a few stories about flies to help her overcome her fear. This is one of her favorites because on the last page the fireflies light up, she is always so excited to get to the end of the story! I'm very happy with this purchase :)

Eric Carle had a tremendous gift to write and illustrate young children's book. This board book is no different. The flashing of dragonflies at the end of the book is the AMAZING. The children's facial expression is priceless. We will miss Mr. Carle and his God given talent.

Batteries dead on arrival

Great book and my daughter loves it. Unfortunately it came with dead batteries. I ordered new batteries and they should be coming in soon. Shouldn’t there be some quality control to make sure that the batteries work BEFORE it ships out? I would’ve given it 5 stars, but had to deduct stars since Amazon didn’t make sure that the batteries weren’t dead before shipping it.

Edit: I tried to replace the batteries and found that the book no longer lights up! What a total piece of crap!!!

Love this little book, The Lonely Firefly, by Eric Carle. The only reason for 4 stars if because the covers of both books were slightly damaged - one has several surface puncture marks and the other looks like the surface sealant is peeling up a bit on one edge. Not returning them because it isn't so bad that I can't use them. If they were gifts, I'd be asking for an exchange.

The book is adorable for toddlers and it’s a great size for their little hands. I especially love how lo the firefly’s light up at the end of the book (I did not have any issues with the lights not working).
You won’t go wrong ordering this for your little or to give as a gift for a little one.
