Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys are fun, simple, written in standard conversational English, and present characters in familial and respectful settings. My granddaughter is getting into reading for pleasure and I am glad to supplement her library with several of these books. In tutoring local students I am a little disappointed in the reading books I have seen that are current publications. They are highly conversational, utilize much slang and colloquialisms, and draw broadly from the recent spate of horror and strange fiction that is everywhere for older individuals. Access through Amazon for the more traditional publications provides very good prices and multiple sources. The ones I ordered came quickly and were in excellent condition.
Nancy Drew is a straightforward person with good self-control, brave, honest, and generous. This adventure involves her finding someone with the same name as her. Includes a chapter with a college football game, and there are plenty of hi-jinks by the suspects.
My cousin's daughter just celebrated her 9th birthday, and I plan on giving her this book, along with some other Nancy Drew books, for Christmas. I gave her volumes 1 through 6 for her birthday, and her mom tells me that she is just blazing through each book, because she loves them so much.
It warmed my heart to give her these books, as I remember reading them when I was her age. I used to borrow one book a week from the local public library in the 1970s. Nancy Drew was always a great read.
I think that we establish a great connection with our children when we share with them something that we also loved as kids. It's a joy for all involved.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong. These books are classics, and by encouraging young ones to read them, you help the children in your life to foster a great habit of reading--one that remains with them through their entire life. I think books of this nature also help to make them better critical thinkers and better writers.
I sent this to my mother for Christmas. I've been slowly building up her Nancy Drew collection. It arrived in perfect condition with no missing pages. If you haven't read any Nancy Drews, you should! They really are fun, fast and intriguing reads!
I buy these for my 10 year old granddaughter. She's in 4th grade but reads at 6 grade level. She now has 8 of them and has read them all.I had read 55 of them and I loved them.....when I was in 7th grade! They are so different from the mystery books of today....no sex...no murders...no cussing. I will continue buying them until she has all 56 editions. She has a 6 yr old sister who will able to read them too.
Nancy receives a letter from London that, although it is addressed to her, is meant for another Nancy Drew. The young sleuth sets out to find the intended recipient, and another fascinating mystery begins. Ned Nickerson, a student at Emerson college, takes a role in solving this one. Nancy, Bess and George spend a weekend at Emerson and enjoy football game festivities while they unravel the mystery. Brave, kind, tactful and intuitive, Nancy is a role model for generations of young girls. Highly recommended.
