I read this story to my granddaughter in the car on the way to the airport. It is a very well laid out story of a boy who couldn't stand to lose a game. I found the story to be helpful in teaching children how to overcome those feelings and to enjoy playing games with one another whether they win or lose. I also found I could apply the concepts in this story to help with feelings of frustrations for both children and adults. I would recommend this book for everyone to read. Well done.
A sweet book about a not-so-sweet tonic - anger! Something everyone can struggle with, and not just when playing games. It clearly speaks to any child who struggles with anger issues as well as to the child in all of us adults. Take some deep breaths and count to 10...or more! Great resource to help your child learn a critical skill.
This is a good book to read to your child. I recommend getting the hard copy so you can enjoy the pictures together. There were a few spots where the transition from one page to another is a jump but that can be used as good spots to stop and talk. There is such power in bringing up important talks with your little ones when they are relaxed and can think.
The author does a magnificent job of explaining at a base level how to lose from an emotional perspective. I look forward to reading this to friend's children and helping them know that their emotions are valid and there are better ways to lose. Engaging and beautiful!
This book is just great! I love how the story unfolds! Easy to read and understand, great illustrations! This is such a great way to bring up the subject with any child that has this issue. Great for parents, teachers, anyone working with kids. Cute and you should buy it!
I can't think in a better way to pass the message better than the way the author did! It's a simple life lesson that is useful not only for kids but also for adults. The illustrations are very good too!
This book identifies the emotions involved in winning and losing, then provides practical ways to handle the emotions. A must-read for children and a helpful approach for adults to learn and teach to others. Should be in every school library to teach how to win, how to lose, and the fun of playing the game with others. Appealing illustrations enhance and support the down-to-earth concepts. A valuable contribution to children's literature!
As someone who hates to lose... I can relate to the kid in this book. I am an elementary school counselor and I am forever trying to teach how to win and lose with style. This is a fantastic edition to my library and I highly recommend it for kiddos that struggle with sportsmanship!!
