I'm a teacher and a mom and I find this book useful in both areas of my life. My son adores the book because the illustrations are gorgeous and the story is cute, easy, and fun. I love the books illustrated by Tim Bowers and I prefer this one to Cool Dog, School Dog.
I've found it's a good book to practice with kids with apraxia or speech delays because of the repetition of the rhymes. There are a lot of high frequency words and rhyming concepts that can be addressed with a class. A fun activity might be having students (or your kids!) write their own stories about a pet based on the rhythm found in this book. The lines are so easy! For example, "Tinky is a sweet dog, a treat dog, a jumping-up-to-greet dog."
