Excellent book to work math into story time and clearly illustrate the concept of fractions

My first grader loves this book! It’s a very simple story but he a cute rhyme/cadence and nice illustrations (just right for this purpose - cute details but clearly shows what’s necessary for what it’s teaching). The first time we read this we hadn’t talked about fractions much (only in the context of following recipes and measuring ingredients), so I had to do a little extra explaining. The second time we read it she totally remembered the concept and could explain it to me as we went through the book. The third time we read it, we used it as a jumping off point for more difficult fractions and we used a manipulative (a fractions set from Lakeshore Learning, which I also highly recommend) to make it tangible for her. She has actually asked to read this book and use the fractions set several times! This has been a great addition to our “distance learning” citric during quarantine and I highly recommend it!
