I love the Krewe of Hunters and I love ghost stories! Ashley Donegal lives on an old Civil War plantation and they have reenactments of the battle that was fought on her land. It's a huge attraction and everyone loves playing their parts.

Later that night after the reenactment Ashley couldn't find one of the players. Charles had not wanted to be a Yankee so one of the others traded places with him and let him be Marshall Donegal. Later that night Ashley thought she seen something outside so she went to check it out and fines Charles swinging in a tree killed just like Marshall Donegal had been.

With all the talk of ghost it brings in the elite paranormal investigation team called The Krewe of Hunters. Jake is the first one on the scene because he had a bad feeling about things. He happens to find Ashley right after she found the body. Jake and Ashley grew up together and were in love with each other till one day Jake said he seen her dead father. That would creep me out a bit too. :)

Now Ashley is seeing ghost, her ancestor Marshall Donegal is there to help her figure things out and make sure she doesn't get hurt in the process. She keeps thinking she is just seeing an image in her mind but he won't go away.

As always the evil on the plantation has nothing to do with ghost and there is a bad man who wants revenge on the Donegals for something that happened centuries ago. Down in the Bayou it's not just the alligators you got to watch out for.

I really liked Jake and Ashley they make a cute couple. Jake sees ghost some times and it freaked Ashley out when they were younger. So even though he still has feelings he is a little afraid to just try and start off where they left off, but it doesn't last for long. Ashley now understand Jake a little better since she is seeing a ghost now, so it's easier for her to now know him a bit better.

If your a fan of paranormal mysteries with a bit of romance then I think you will like this series. Highly recommend it!

2.0 out of 5 starsLousy Book

I was really disappointed with this book. I liked the first in the series, but this one really fell flat. It took way too long for the story to begin. I was over 25% in before the murder mystery finally started. The plot was very simplistic. Ashley and her grandpa run a B&B on their well preserved plantation. The murder happens just after the annual reenactment of a civil war skirmish that occurred on the property. One of the reenactors is missing and turns up dead the next day. Jake, our hero, is part of a quasi governmental group that investigates events with a paranormal side. Despite this, when Ashley realizes her dead relative is talking to her, she never asks the paranormal team about it. She just worries about it.

Jake is the man Ashley pushed away. He tried to give her a message from her newly dead father and she freaked out and broke up with him, although she never stopped loving him. Jake is steadfast and boring. There's really nothing special about him. Jake is your standard interchangeable tall, dark, and handsome hero. Ashley is pretty dumb. She has sex with Jake without a condom or even a talk about basic safety. There's two incredible TSTL moments at the end.

There was a lot of dumb, but the TSTL stuff was so annoying I had to give this book two stars.

A southern mystery, ghost story, and romance rolled into one. The story of separated lovers through the generations was sweet. I didn't really see the connection to the killer. That explanation seemed a bit thin, but overall it was an enjoyable story. I'm sure that I'll read more in this series.

It would be nice if the editors knew the difference between Angela and Ashley. It would make the read smoother and faster. See red underline in paragraph. It’s like that throughout the book

It took me a while to get into this book and that is the reason I only gave it four stars. Once I did I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romance and mystery.

I've quickly grown to love Graham's work in the short time I've gotten to know it; I've gone through about 10 or more books of hers and my favorite are the Krew of Hunters stories and this didn't disappoint. She always draws you into the stories and settings with her exceptional level of character and setting descriptions that make you feel like you're there without boring you to tears with irrelevant information.

Once again I am having trouble getting the correct number of stars for the book. This book is using the same characters as from the previous book, only the main characters were a different character from the previous book. The plot twists and turns, keeping the reader's attention throughout

What can I say? I just love Heather Graham and the paranormal books she writes. I have finished this one and will be starting on #3 next, looking forward to #4. I had finished the first one before. The fact that her Krew and characters follow in each book makes it a very well read.

As she always seems to, Heather Graham hatches another great story with "The Krewe". In fact I have enjoyed every one of her books. Hard to put this one down, great read.

I'm a big fan of Emma Bull's Shadow Unit series. This was recommended as a similar genre, which I tried, starting with the Phantom Evil. I like the Krewe of Hunters (but I still skim past the steamy scenes...)
