4.0 out of 5 starsMixed Feelings, but Overall a Great Book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 27, 2015
The world has fallen apart and destruction is all that remains. Everyone is in hiding, but Violet can’t remember anything about what happened to cripple the world. Actually, she can’t remember much of anything. She finds herself at the mercy of the reptiscillas, who all seem to hate her for being a guardian – whatever that means. Through it all, she has to find a way to figure out her role in the fight to save the world.

To be completely honest, my feelings on this book are mixed. I’m just getting off the high of the amazing last two thirds of the book, but I really struggled with the start of this book. It’s really frustrating to go into the book with the main character knowing nothing. I think stories with the amnesia aspect can be really great, but when I have read through two whole books and know a whole lot about the character and her experiences, it gets kind of frustrating to have her be so ignorant. So many times I wanted to scream at her to fill in the blanks to her memory, but of course that wouldn’t work.

Once you get past Part 1, it gets a lot better. I’m so glad Rachel Morgan decided to give Ryn his own time to shine (Part 2 was in his point of view). Things really started picking up later into the book and I couldn’t put it down, but I really had to force myself to get through the first of it. I even had to put it down and pick up another book before I felt I could continue with this one.

Getting past that first part, the book is definitely worth it. There was a really satisfying conclusion to the book and it didn’t seem cheesy, or like it was too easy for what happened to actually have happened. Sorry if this is a bit confusing, I’m trying to be vague.

I still really love Violet as a character, even though she can’t remember anything. She is still true to herself and she may not remember why she is the way she is, but she doesn’t drastically change, which I really like. I’m really glad Rachel Morgan decided to handle Violet’s case of amnesia this way. She really did an excellent job writing Violet without her memory. I think it was just my personal preference that made it more painful to read Violet without her memory.

Ryn is such an amazing character and I love him so much! Going into this book series, I really hated him at first, which is what you are supposed to do, but I really enjoyed seeing him grow and change throughout this series. He is just so good for Violet as well. I am so glad that Rachel Morgan didn’t make him push Violet too hard when she didn’t remember him. It’s a terrible position that he was in, but Rachel Morgan did an excellent job with writing the new dynamic to Ryn and Violet’s relationship.

This book series is really worth the read. I really loved it. Sadly, each book had a piece that bothered me, so they couldn’t rank as high as my absolute favorites, but it came pretty close. I’m excited that this world will be continued on in the next book series arch about Calla. I just might have to finish decompressing from this one before I start the next.

3.0 out of 5 stars... on the previous 2 books because they were that amazing! But this book
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 12, 2015
I've posted 5 star reviews on the previous 2 books because they were that amazing! But this book, the ending was just flat to me. Still love the characters and I was biting my nails with the drama and suspense that the story draws the readers into, but the ending was just not as creative or as well written as I would have liked. This might spoil the ending for some so brace yourself: There's a prophecy that leads Violet and Ryn on an adventure to find a person that will save the entire Faerie kingdom. One of the worst things any storyteller can do is bring in a character that will play a major role in the salvation of faerie-kind in the middle of the last book. The author tries to downplay this savior by not focusing on her in the book which is fine except that as soon as I read about this supposed savior it left an awful taste in my mouth. I finished the book (the story really is good and well-written) but would have made the ending of this very compelling trilogy different. In the end, Violet is the true savior but it would have been better if another person wasn't mentioned at all. Instead, Violet and Ryn could have went out to find a certain object that would have saved the kingdom. that way, the author wouldn't introduce a new player so close to the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Conclusion to Creepy Hollow Series
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 23, 2013

**Contains spoilers for The Faerie Prince (Creepy Hollow #2)**

This was an exceptional end to the Creepy Hollow series! After the huge cliffhanger of The Faerie Prince, this was a much awaited ending, and it delivers in every single way. I was a bit worried that [the whole thing with Violet losing her memory would greatly affect how much I enjoyed the story, but Ms. Morgan does an amazing job at sucking us right back into the world of Faerie. In some ways, we are re-invited into the world, and find out new things as Violet learns them, which is just fantastic. At the same time, the reader is constantly wishing and hoping for Violet to just remember everything so that she can defeat a certain someone.

This book is chock full of action and suspense. The reader is left on the edge of their seat numerous times throughout the novel, and it hurtles toward a frightening ending that was simply extraordinarily written. However, the best part is the characters. In some ways, it was sad while reading, knowing that this is the last time we'll see any of these characters, but we also watch every character (mainly Vi and Ryn) grow and develop in new and interesting ways. This is told in dual POV, however only one section is actually from Ryn's perspective. Honestly, Ryn kind of stole the show in this book. I felt for him so many times during this novel, especially because of the situation with Vi. I was rooting for them, and praying that they would come out unscathed. There are plenty of sweet moments too! So all romance lovers will certainly enjoy this.

This book certainly has taken an interesting turn from the first in the series, and honestly, I'm blown away at the direction this series has taken. I was left guessing until the very end, and the climax will leave you breathless. I will say, I teared up at one point because of a certain character's death, but he had to go ;) Ms. Morgan is simply a wonderful author that written a fantastic series everyone should check out. She has created a unique and creative spin on the Faerie world that will appeal to many people. If you are looking for a quick read that will leave you begging for more, this is the series for you. I can't wait to see what Ms. Morgan writes next! Happy reading :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Faerie War

War has arrived in the Fae realm. With it brings destruction, suffering, and a new threat. Overwhelmed by pain and loss, Violet takes an experimental potion to forget. And she does. Violet remembers her name but nothing else. She’s lost her place in this world overrun Draven’s evil, but Violet has an important part to play in the fight against evil. When someone from her past shows up with an ancient prophecy he thinks related to Violet, she must fight to remember who she is and what her place is in this new world.

This book is the most heart wrenching we’ve seen in the Creepy Hollow series. Violet had experience so much pain and loss that she feels she couldn’t possible cope. She loses not only her memories, but herself. Violet is softer living Underground with the Reptscillians. She has a family now, a community to protect and accept her. She becomes a new person by learning about her past from the Reptscillians.

When Ryn shows up, he’s devastated. He feels betrayed and hurt and angry. The two had finally come together, overcoming such a charged past, that Violet choosing to forget about all the good- in addition to the bad- pierces his heart. But through Violet’s memory loss, we see Violet and Ryn connecting in a completely new way, where Ryn unabashedly pursues Violet and helps her reconnect her present to her past.

Despite to overabundance of “Chosen Ones” and “Prophecy fulfillment” tropes that exists in fantasy genre, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline used here. During the quest, we meet many new character, all of whom are engaging, lively, and beautifully connect with characters we already know and love. I also appreciated that while Violet wasn’t the “Star of the high land” who could stop Draven, she is integral in fulfilling the prophecy.

I think I loved the other cover more. The girl is not what I imagined but...

5 stars for the story, characters, pace of the development of scenes (am I making sense? )

4 stars for the dialogues. As someone who rated this 3 stars said...the dialogues are too ping pong style.

3 stars for... some holes in the story for e.g. what happened to Nate's mother and Tilly?

My favorite parts of this book were: the arguments between Violet and Ryn are priceless, something about glow-bugs asses? :) I will come back with that and the ending (of course, they do not marry like in 90% of YA stories :) )

The overall feeling was...I really had fun, the entire story was delicious, Violet+Ryn= super funny ...this is what a relationship should start as...friendship, hurt, disappointments then forgiveness and love.

I don't know...I think re-reading this will generate a better review. But until then...This is the best book I have read until now among the YA series.

Note: 05.03.2015 As I said, the girl in on the cover book is not really how I imagined Violet. Yes she is ambitious and the girl looks like she would kick your ass but...I don't know.

Anyway , What I wanted to say is that this book became my favorite. Part of the reason is that I can't find a similar plot where the two main characters had known each other for a long time and not just get together for a makeout session and get married. But anyway...
I cannot understand how girls would fall in love so easily...I don't get it. Just because the guy is hot? So this is why I like this book and gave it a 5 star...but as a work of literature it's 3-4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, awesome series!

It is such an amazing feeling when you find a series that you cannot put down for a second. Where you finish one book, and instantly buy the next and start it because you just have to know what happens next. Where you actually may force yourself to stop so that the book will last just a little longer. The Creepy Hollow series was that for me. I was hooked in book one, and by The Faerie War, I was in love with everything this series has to offer. And yes, I am definitely in book depression now that it is over.

Violet is one of those characters, that regardless of what she's been put through or what she does to herself, you cannot help but adore her. She's fierce and strong and definitely her own person. Then on the other side, Ryn, you are forever my love. In the first book, I knew I hearted you. In The Faerie Prince, I grew to just love and adore you and finally in this last installment you have easily become a favorite book boyfriend of mine. I just adored watching these two fight the world together (whether they were fighting or not).

I have to throw a shout out to Arthur...YES the shrinking dragon! I want one. With The Faerie War, I love how everything built up to multiple moments that you knew were hopefully coming and just couldn't wait to read about. I also loved all the new characters and work building we see in this last book. Overall, I absolutely adored this series. If you're looking for a fun but dark, fast-paced, awesome fae read, definitely give this series a shot!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful tale of betrayal

A wonderful tale of betrayal, adventure, magic and love! So much happens to Vi during this adventure that you feel like you are there next to her side.

War is upon the Fae realm, destruction, devastation and loss. So much pain and suffering. Vi takes a potion to forget and just does that. Forgets everything, her love, her friends, her existence and has no idea who she is. Remembers her name and that is all. She knows there is a war and the bad guys name is Draven. She has no recollection of knowing him and how that came about.

She runs into Ryn, her love, and doesn't remember anything, including growing up with him. This potion is strong and everything she has ever cared about has been wiped clean from her mind.

As she gets to know him, she develops feeling for him. They fight side by side and it feels familiar to her. When Uri creates a potion to reverse the forget potion nothing happens and they think the potion has failed. We discover that the potion works when Vi and Ryn are kissing and she feels love. Everything comes back to her in a flood of emotions and she passes out.

Such a wonderful and adventurous series! Your mind will soak up everything like a sponge and you will crave the adventure~ I can not express how amazing and well written this series is~

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the end for Vi and Ryn?
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 12, 2019

In book 3 of the Creepy Hollow series, The Faerie War, Violet Fairdale is so devasted by the realization that she is responsible for the destruction of the faerie domain, her home, and the death of family and friends that she takes a potion to forget. She awakens in the home in a Reptscillian hideout and struggles to remember who she is and that, according to a prophecy, she is instrumental in saving the world.

The structure of this book is different from the other two in the series; it is written from two different points of view: Vi’s and Ryn’s. As the two reencounter, Ryn tries to help Vi remember that she is a guardian and that she was in love with him.

Can Ryn help Vi remember? Can the world be saved from Lord Draven? Will the prophecy be filled? The pace is quick and there are lots of new characters and locations to keep you entertained.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ending for the trilogy

I must say that Ryn is my favorite MC, and he has a most important part to play in this book. Also, the new Violet is a decided improvemente on the Violet of the first two books: more mature, less impulsive and deserving of a HEA ending. I was sorry to see so much destruction and death, but at the end, people seemed to be getting on with their lives in a much more peaceful and inclusive frame of mind. I loved that all the different types of Fae were integrated and accepted as equals, instead of considered "monsters" as in the first book. All in all, I loved this trilogy and heartily recommend it.

Well, this is in my book collection- all 3 books!!!! This was was a pleasant and outstanding ending for V’s story! I truly enjoyed how Ryn and V fall in love again, the twists and turns of each chapter, and how it all wraps up in the end in the Faerie world!!!! Rachel Morgan described the place so profound and magnificent that you can picture yourself there. Such a great imagination of the faerie realm and human realm. A quick and fun read- I couldn’t stop reading these books in a row. I will continue with the other 6 books. Eck! AUDIO NARRATOR OF V AND “RYN”...beautiful voices that capture every word, the true characters in the book!

We ended the last book with Vi choosing to erase her memory, and the first part of this book is truly heartbreaking as a reader because we know what she lost. She is now with a new community of Reptiscillas as she tries to recover her memory. This book is told with alternating viewpoints with Ryn, and I really enjoyed seeing things from his perspective. When they finally meet up, I loved watching Ryn and Vi trying to mend their relationship it was both parts heartbreaking and adorable.

This final installment is focused on the threat of Lord Draven and his brainwashed army. I don’t want to give away too much, but it was expertly done. There are no one-dimensional villains in this series and that makes it both exciting and unpredictable. This was a fantastic finale and as soon as I finished I was tempted to start the series over again!
