How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsDon’t worry - it’s doesn’t instruct children to lick the book
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020
Despite what other reviews say, the book does not instruct children to lick the book. It does instruct children to put their finger on the book. And takes them on a short journey of some super close up photos of ordinary things like clothes and skin. Our three year old likes it.

I bought this book for a friend's kid who just doesn't get the gross factor of putting his mouth on everything. I thought this book would be a cute way of teaching him why he shouldn't and a fun way to remind him when he forgets. This book actually instructs the kid to lick the page!!!! Ugh!!! Gross!!! I hope libraries don't carry this book!!!

I'm giving it 2 stars because if it had a more appropriate and honest title, it'd be great.

I'm a nurse and I use this book for teaching kids in classrooms about germs. With the spread of Coronavirus it's important to understand how germs spread. This one gives amazing photos of common surfaces and has great explanations of germs. I covered certain pages where you touch the spot with clear packing tape to make it easy to use a wipe for sanitizing (since it encourages readers to interact with the pages by touch). Super fun book to read.

I gave this to my niece for her third birthday and she LOVES it! I’m a microbiologist and realized a good book could really help me explain the concept of microscopic organisms to her. This one has been great! The interactive nature of the book keeps her engaged as she takes Min on a microscopic adventure :)

5.0 out of 5 stars It's simultaneously cute and gross

My son loves this book, so we've bought another as a gift for his cousins. The microscopic pictures are interesting and the microbes are cute. The little ones will love "spreading" the germs all over their bodies and clothing. They will certainly be talking about the book after the story ends. As a parent, you'll just be grossed out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tells kids to touch things and then put their fingers in their mouths.

I bought this book back in September planning to save it for Christmas. Got around to wrapping it and was flipping through it expecting cuteness about hygiene and avoiding germs and germs make people sick etc, so don’t lick stuff. Right? Wrong.

I absolutely cannot fathom a book for children that instructs the child to touch the page and then touch their teeth. No, seriously, that’s what it says. Look at my pictures. The title of the book is Do Not Lick This Book and yet it’s telling kids to put their fingers in their mouths while reading the book. And the back cover of the book GIVES THEM A SPOT TO LICK!! What. The. Actual…

I am aghast.

I’m beyond the return window so I’m actually throwing this book away. Not only would I not give this to my child, I wouldn’t even want to donate it to the library. Children are already walking Petrie dishes, we’re supposed to be teaching them hygiene and coughing into their elbows. This book will spread germs and make kids sick: because even if they don’t catch a norovirus from this actual book (which if they LICK THE BACK COVER AS INSTRUCTED BY THE BOOK, they well might!!) it encourages kids in behavior that, when extrapolated to the rest of the world, genuinely can make them sick.

Where is the “Negative Stars” option? I want to give this book Negative 5 Stars.

Does your child hate washing their hands? Well, this book helps them to understand what germs are and how they are transferred from one thing to another. I really like the book, but my child still hates washing his hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to teach kids about germs

This is a funny and informative book to teach young kids about germs. I bought this book to use in my kindergarten classroom and the kids love it. You take Min the microbe on an adventure looking closely at germs and how they are spread. It does a nice job of showing how gross germs are but also keeps it cute and silly for young readers to understand and stay engaged while also allowing for deeper discussion. I incorporate this into our science lessons about germs and how they are spread.

Fantastic book! Encourages young children to experiment a bit and go on an imaginative journey following some friendly and funny microbes. Beautiful art, combining lovely cartoon microbes and microscopic photography. Highly recommended!
