Starting to see history being made

This is a solid book. One of the things I enjoyed is the fact that history from the first book is being created in this book. Things that are glossed over, but mentioned in the first book are invented in this book. I'm sure that this will be a big thing going forward and it might not have the impact it did in this book and the next few in which it happens, but it's still cool.
That's in the same vein as creation and that's something that always draws me in. Basically taking nothing and turning it into something. As an example of what I'm talking about so I don't spoil anything, think of Harry Potter. Yeah, magic is cool through the series, but nothing beats the first time you go to Diagon Alley and buy your magic supplies, the first classes you go to, or the first spells you cast. They're still cool later on, but they've become more common place. I really like the feeling you get from these aspects of a story and there is plenty of that in this book.
The biggest thing I disliked was that there was a character near the end, who is lost, and you never get a resolution on them. I feel like it was just a statement by the author that sometimes in a bad situation you often don't get a resolution to something. Due to that feeling and the fact that it wasn't related to the main plot, I'm going to call it artistic choice and not a detriment to the story.
Overall, I liked the book and will continue in reading the next book in the series, which I'm in fact doing as I type this.
