How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsHow much do I love this? At least 7 ways!
Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2020
I have three refrigerators, each with a freezer compartment. I also have a chest freezer. All are jam packed. It is safe to say I am a food hoarder. But, oddly enough, there is no chicken, salmon, white fish filets, or hamburger in any of them. Why? Because that’s what I cook regularly, use up, then buy again for the next batch of dinners. My freezers are filled with lamb and sweetbreads and posh steaks , and tenderloins that I rarely use. This new cookbook has figured that out about me and many home cooks, and the recipes are all centered around most frequently used meats, fish, and vegetables. I feel it was written just for me! Jamie, as always, is not afraid of herbs and spice, so the cookbook appeals to me in that regard, also. I just received it yesterday and already have a long list of things to make. Of my over 500 cookbooks— including every one of Jamie Oliver’s previous cookbooks—this is already my favorite. Or favourite, as Jamie would say.

then this is not the cookbook for you. I love the idea and the premise but after my copy arrived and I skimmed through the recipes I decided this was not going to be a good fit. There was a sameness to the ingredients which was fine if they were foods we liked but mustard, anchovies and lima beans are not popular at my house. Some of the canned and in the jar items are very British and might be tricky to find for folks who live in smaller towns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jamie is a genius of tradition, modernity, simplicity, creativty - a joyous sensual feast!

It is a perfect remedy for "What do I cook now? Blah. I can"t cook. Don't know what to make. My food is unexciting. I have no time. My life sucks."

I adore the way Jamie approaches food. He is a master of the basics. He has ventured into every type of cuisine. He has put together a book for every occasion and every angle. I became a total convert about a dozen years ago, and my favorite treat is to get his new books. And gift them too!

This is possibly a perfect Covid-19 cookbook. Full of simple, sensible, nutritious, delicious everyday recipes. Whatever kick you are in, there is a good and wholesome recipe for it. It works for newbies in college, as well as parents of 5 such as Jamie. If you are a parent you must check out Jools' and Buddy's cooking videos on Facebook and Instagram.

The saying goes "All disease starts in the gut". By the same token, you can improve your overall well-being dramatically by modifying your approach to food. Cooking your own food is the first step to better physical and mental nutrition.

If you are thinking holiday gifts- buy a stack of these!!!

We already made two of the recipes in the first 4 days! I love the pictures, layout and simpllicity of the recipes. Even though it seems simple the tastes are complex. Highly recommend.

Cognitive Scientist
3.0 out of 5 stars A very British cookbook
Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2021

The basic concept of this cookbook was very attractive -- a set of recipes for the main course items that one tends to buy regularly, without having a particular recipe or plan in mind. However, I have had difficulty finding anything that I want to try making. The concept isn't actually well realized -- pork tenderloin might be the only example. Some key ingredients were a bit of a surprise -- eggplant, cauliflower, mushrooms. The recipes show a heavy Indian influence, undoubtedly an influence of the large number of Indian takeout places to be found in the UK.
Additional ingredients in most recipes will in fact require advance planning and shopping. And in fact American cooks are not going to be able to find some of the ones that are mentioned multiple times -- such as fresh lasagna noodles or low fat creme fraiche (sounds like a contradiction in terms) or various Indian spice mixes. One recipe called for Bombay mix, which turns out to be a snack mix rather than a spice mix.
I was surprised that some British reviews complained of bland recipes (no doubt the influence of Indian food) since some of the recipes scared me by asking for multiple hot peppers.
There is a version of fish and chips which the photo shows on a bright green background of something. Finally, after a little reading, I realized it was a nouveau version of "mushy peas". The standard British fish and chips meal includes mushy peas, an item of little attraction for Americans that I have always assumed to be made from canned peas. This recipe calls for mashed up frozen peas. Why bother to mash them?

I’ve been Jamie Oliver fan for years, so I was excited to get this for Christmas. I have tried five recipes from this book so far and everyone has been a hit with my family. The ingredients are readily found, with a few American substitutions. The recipes are full of flavor, and I am eating lots of vegetables. I am looking forward to trying more recipes from this book. I’m sure it will become a regular resource in our house.

Like the 5 Ingredients book, the book layout is the same which I love. It is designed to be used, and not for one's coffee table. The text is really small however. The photos are very enticing. Of the two, this 7 Ways has his typically tasty and international Jamie interpretations from his travels. And like the other title, a few of the ingredients may be hard to find (Cumberland herby pork sausage?), but if one is a skilled cook, not difficult to make substitutions.

I have tried several recipes so far and I'm very pleased. The instructions are easy to follow and although some of the items needed for some recipes are not found in my local supermarket, they are available with Amazon! This book has been a big hit with my family. Buy it, you'll be glad you did!

this is an awesome idea for a cookbook, but kinda fell flat for me. there area dome great ideas for broccoli, salmon, chicken (parts and whole) and others, but some i would not make or i dont have access to some of these ingredients (live in a rural area with minimal ethnic store access.) would like to see if these area the same ingredients purchased frequently in USA vs Great Britan
