How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsSECRETS & LIES

The life Olivia Harper always dreamed of isnโ€™t so dreamy these days. The 16-hour work days are unfulfilling and so are things with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when she hears that her estranged mother, Juliet, has been seriously injured, Liv has no choice but to pack up her life and head home to beautiful Cape Sanctuary on the Northern California coast.

Itโ€™s just for a few monthsโ€”thatโ€™s what Liv keeps telling herself. But the closer she gets to Cape Sanctuary, the painful memories start flooding back: Natalie, her vibrant, passionate older sister who downward-spiraled into addiction. The fights with her mother who enabled her sister at every turn. The overdose that took Natalie, leaving her now-teenaged daughter, Caitlin, an orphan.

As Liv tries to balance her own needs with those of her injured mother and an obstinate, resentful fifteen-year-old, it becomes clear that all three Harper women have been keeping heartbreaking secrets from one another. And as those secrets are revealed, Liv, Juliet, and Caitlin will see that itโ€™s never too lateโ€”or too earlyโ€”to heal family wounds and find forgiveness.

My Thoughts: In the beginning of The Sea Glass Cottage, we meet Olivia, who has gone through a terrifying experience in her favorite Seattle coffee shop, and now is suffering a form of PTSD. Despite her issues, she changes her schedule to head to her hometown when her mother, Juliet, falls and seriously injures herself.

As she tries to step in to help, she has to deal with her own feelings from her adolescence, when her mother focused all of her energy on her sister Natalie, an addict, and then on Caitlin, the baby her sister had back then. Now Caitlin is fifteen and full of barely suppressed rage about her own resentments and secrets.

It was hard to like Caitlin, who had done something she shouldnโ€™t have, and is allowing what she learned to interfere with her relationships.

Juliet has her own secret, which is also an obstacle that could prevent future happiness.

I was rooting for Olivia throughout, but also hoping that Juliet and Caitlin would own up to their fears and secrets, allowing the family to rebuild. A 4.5 star read.

3.0 out of 5 starsIโ€™m not interested in bratty teenagers

And I canโ€™t stand women who keep secrets because they think they know whatโ€™s best for everyone else. Also the guilt over how all these people couldnโ€™t save an addict. No one can save an addict. They have to save themselves. โ€œYet another woman he couldnโ€™t save. โ€œ Cooper is a really great character but this constant guilt trip was so boring. So this book rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Nobody talks to anybody. Even in the end they havenโ€™t totally cleared the air, even though it all wraps up in a neat little HEA with a bow on top. I appreciate the Christian overtones, but itโ€™s really not for me. Iโ€™m looking for a new author, but i think Iโ€™ll keep looking.

The Sea Glass Cottage: A Novel, is a story of hope and many things dear to me: dogs, friends, stunning gardens, and complex relationships. The charming seaside town of Serenity is a community of colorful characters who face life challenges, trauma, fear, love, and loss; but mostly love. Four star rating only because I could easily predict the ending.

4 stars for The Sea Glass Cottage which is about the Hart family. So many secrets, so much loss and misunderstanding in this family. Can they finally tell how they really feel and find peace? The beautiful setting is a big part of this story.

Although a few times I felt the book was a bit overwritten, I thoroughly enjoyed the history of this family of women. How different things in their familyโ€™s story come together unexpectedly makes for a wonderful and loving roller coaster ride.

A story about love, family secrets, bittersweet memories, forgiveness, and a HEA. There was a bit of repetition but, overall, I enjoyed the story.
