2.0 out of 5 starsDumbed Down Language
Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2020
I am a homeschooling Mom (an actual homeschooler. Not a βbecause of Covid homeschooler.β
I bought this for my 8 year old son but I am returning it. First, the language in it is so dumbed down... βthat shot was sick,β it was βcrazy hot,β outside, βhis pool didnβt have a water slide but it was still pretty sweet.β
That is only 7 pages in and I am cringing. I have done my best to expose my son to extremely rich literature with high vocabulary content and this book is written for the typical dumbed down public school child.
The main character Josh wouldnβt accept a hug from his Mom because βhe wasnβt the touchy type.β
βThatβs for sure.β
It might be an exciting story line but I cannot in good conscience give my son this shameful literary content.
We own every single I Survived book. For some reason I felt the need to proof read this book because I found out the author works for scholastic and they are known to be extremely liberal and expose children to inappropriate topics. Now that I see the writing in this book is shameful English, I am going to read through all of the other books we own and dispose of them if they are just as dumbed down, language wise.
Part of homeschooling is to expose our children to QUALITY literature and good writing so that they themselves will become good writers and know proper English.
This is the garbage public schoolers are reading and this is the reason so many of them sound so idiotic when they speak. This language is so dumbed down, immature.... no thank you.
So here is a review for the other homeschooling Mothers who want quality literature for their children.
