How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Big Thank You!

I would like to personally thank all of the parents who wrote reviews telling others not to buy this book because of the bisexual story line. Thanks to them I immediately purchased this book for my 2nd grader so that she does not grow up to be someone who is freaked out or disgusted by such things. I told my daughter that some parents thought that a book about two boys or two girls liking each other and dating was inappropriate for someone her age. She said, “that’s ridiculous!” I agree.

1.0 out of 5 starsThis book contains mature subject matters.

My eight year old daughter enjoys reading this book series. She was thrilled when I gave her this book to read on a long car trip. As she was reading she started asking me questions about boys liking boys. I asked why and she said in the book that is a discussion that is occurring between characters. I was very surprised. This is a children's book! I understand that this is something our kids growing up today will need to understand, however, this is something that as a parent, I will discuss and teach her more about! Not a book! And not at this age!. It's my job as a parent to inform my child of certain social issues and I really didn't appreciate this mature subject matter being pushed in this book. I took her book and read it myself to understand exactly the theme of the book. The subject matter continues throughout the book and ends with a bang. Not OK! And now my daughter and I have had conversations that I would've preferred to have when she was a year or two older and could understand a bit better. I hope this gives an insight into this book so you can decide as a parent if it's appropriate or not for your child.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really it's my fault for not reviewing this before I let my 2nd grader read it.

This book adresses the topic of homosexuality. I was not ready to explain to my 2nd grader the ins and outs of homosexuality. This is my fault for not doing my homework ahead of time. My child had already read several books from this series which were all in her school library, I just kind of assumed it must be appropriate. It's not, at least for an 8 year old. I right this review to warn other parents.

1.0 out of 5 stars Parents beware! The summary is misleading

This book involves young kids exploring gay relationships but the summary reads otherwise. It would be fine for this type of material to be in a kids comic book but the parents MUST know this when purchasing. My 12 yr old daughter recieved this during xmas and upon reading it was embarassed and confused.

2.0 out of 5 stars LBGT literature for kids.

This book is engaging and has cute pictures. The thing I did not appreciate is that the plot revolves around the homosexuality of 2 of the main characters and the bisexuality of another character. I just wish I'd known that before giving it to my second grader. The reading level was 2.3, but the content was way too mature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be ready to explain what gay and big-sexual means
Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2018

My 7 year old daughter loved Sisters and Smile so she really wanted the rest of this authors books. I didn’t realize this title is recommended for 10 and over since the others skewed younger. My daughter was very excited and enjoyed the book, but I did get a shock when she came out of her room and asked what “Bi” meant. The story isn’t overly sexual at all, there are some crushes, but there is one page where a character asks another if they are gay or bi, so be prepared. My daughter is a little younger than the intended audience, so I would have waited to get this book had I known.

My daughters LOVED Smile and Sisters, so I thought this book would be good too, BUT, a word of caution to parents: This book deals with homosexuality. Very disappointed in this.

Raina Telgemeier makes a good series of books for children, including Smile. Sisters, Guts, and yes Drama... Which the title seems to bring out in a lot of these reviews. Yes, this book, in accordance to the changing of our times, introduces a homosexual relationship between two characters. A factual part of life that occurs in adolescence for many people discovering who they are. This book approaches the subject with the same flare that the author approaches other subjects in past books like Smile. It's sad to see homophobia getting 1 star reviews from parents who are acting like their children are damaged. My daughter is 7 years old and has a collection of Telgemeier's books. When she read Drama as a library check-out she asked me why the boys like each other. I told her, quite simply, "Love is different to different people. All that matters is that we don't hurt one another and respect each other for who we are" and the topic ended. We never discussed it again and, to be clear, she's mentally sound, happy, and perfectly normal... If it takes you weeks of trials and tribulations to explain a normal fact of life to your child you're probably doing it wrong, but that's not my place to judge and I don't personally care. The book, as a whole for context and material for young readers growing up in changing times, is great. And the author's work doesn't deserve reduced stars because some people are stuck in mindsets left over from the 1600's...

I'm almost 12 years old and yes this book does mention homosexuality but that doesn't matter cuz it was an amazing book about teamwork and friendship and discovering your identity and the reviews i read made me want to cry they were just so mean and the ppl who wrote made it sound like being gay is some kind of curse but its not why cant those haters learn how to accept what if one of those parents' son or daughter who they love very much tells them "i'm gay" what are they going to do then all of a sudden hate thier kid i just dont get it there is nothing wrong with liking someone the same gender as you and if those ppl cant accept that then i cant accept them
