I enjoyed reading this novel, only to be surprised by the intertwining stories of romance and the very implausible
Social commentary from the key characters. Otherwise a great novel with interesting plot !

Getting somewhat tiresome

This latest installment is the most disjointed yet, it jumps around continually, and if your interest in this seemingly neverending yarn is dwindling you have to keep reminding yourself to pay attention to where you are in the story. I get the idea, this guy is drawing this out so we will keep buying volume after volume. It is like a movie where the first one is a surprise hit, and they keep producing sequels to "make a buck"............................Not likely I will keep shelling out my hard earned money on this story. I really don't care how it ends.

These deluxe editions are definitely the way to go, presenting the story on large, high-quality pages, tightly bound in a dust-jacketed hardcover. Not only are they the best way to read the story, they also make a great-looking collection (unlike the standard paperback editions). Besides that, each of these deluxe editions includes never-before-seen bonus material, the written script for one scene of the series in this case.

Volume 4 includes the stories from the Paper Dolls and Kimono Dragons paperbacks, meaning we're 4/5 through the entire series after this one. This volume is what puts the 'epic' in Yorick's epic journey around the world, as we find him in Australia, Japan, and China. A lot of back-story is included here, as we learn about Dr. Mann's, 355's, and Alter's troubled pasts, as well as the secret history behind Ampersand. Clues about the origin of the plague are popping up, though there is still much shrouded in mystery. The top-notch storytelling we've experienced throughout the series continues on, and Yorick and Co.'s story is just as exciting as ever. I particularly enjoyed Yorick's adventures in Japan, as we learn more about how that culture has coped with the loss of all the men.

Needless to say, I look forward to the final deluxe edition , which is sure to finish off this exciting story with a bang. Highly recommended!

With Volume 4, Y: the Last Man begins to move towards the endgame. Several issues of this volume are given over to character backstories, and sets up the Big Bad villains for the final act.

So, the thing to like about this volume is how tightly written it's plot is. Things happen in these 12 issues, they happen very quickly, and they change the game for the entire world. The character backstories are also quite good, ratcheting up the development in what was already one of the best 'character' comics I've ever read.

The downside? Quite a few dumb plot points are used to keep the story going. Characters seem to be incompetent because the plot demands it. Fortunately, I don't think this should carry over to the last volume. Here's hoping this series ends on a high note.

Quick Review: A good read but not as good as the first three books.

The comic takes more time in developing extensive history behind the characters. I've read that many fans found it to be boring but I was unable to get bored considering I was already in love with the world and the characters and was more than open to read an entire book that is basically the design of the calm before the storm.

In film terms: This book is basically the point in the movie when it presents all the problems that the protagonists are going to have to face in the last fourth of the movie. Basically the end of the 5th sequence and presenting the 6th sequence just at the end of the second act.

Enjoy and worth the money to own.

The story is about a man named Yorick and how he (and his monkey) are the only males to survive after something kills all the men in the world at the same time. Yorick and his monkey embark on a journey to find out what happened to all the men, and to get to Australia where his girlfriend, Beth, may still be waiting for him. The story is gripping, intense, funny, and tragic. These books are a must read!
