How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat book, I wish I had gotten to it sooner.
Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2017
Set in the Freehold Universe, before the Colony of Grainne has declared independence from the UN, the story follows an elite executive protection detail tasked with guarding the President of an emerging nation.
The story has a lot of parallels to the US situation in Afghanistan and is as grounded in reality as any modern warfare thriller. The Ripple Creek team are dynamic, realistic characters that you'll engage with, and root for. Anyone who ever had to deal with a bureaucracy will immediately sympathize with the restrictions placed on them by higher, and will cheer for their workarounds.

Well balanced between political intrigue, action, character development, and world building. This is a great read that will have you clamoring for the rest of the series.

Should not be lister as si-fi. Throw in the word earth every 50 or so pages does not make it si- fi. More of a milatary fiasco in Somalia, come on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking good stuff.....

Been sort of orbiting around the edges of Michael Z. Williamsons books for a decade now. Have interacted with the Author through various hobby related activities for more than 2. Oddly enough it was the text on the back of a related tee shirt that finally made me "Pull the trigger" so to speak and read one of his books" Fully and completely enjoyable experience. Fast paced, fun, rollicking work. Full of character and experiences my own background and history made quite relatable. A good read and one that makes me want to push on to the then next books in the series and follow the Boys and Girls of RCS......

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start!

As a fan of military sci-fi, this was enticing...esp. since he has collaborated with John Ringo. It would have gotten 5 stars but for two things - first, some battle scenes seem to become repetitive, and his political beliefs are glaringly evident. If you can't figure that this author has a VERY Conservative mindset, you aren't paying attention!

TX based reader /
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent - but I expected more from Michael Williamson
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2009

Have read several other books by Williamson, and have enjoyed them. When I ordered this new book, I expected more of the same. Well - there is a difference between grilled porterhouse steak and grilled sirloin tip steak, and all that one has to do is to experience it - that is, in this case, read them. It had a lot of the elements that I enjoy about science fiction - but it seemed to lack that illuminating spark that sets really good books apart from the crowd. In my life - retired and over 65 - I have read thousands of books - and a lot of them science fiction. This is a good book, and as such it deserves to be read - but the situation Michael postulated here could have had some very more interesting and intriguingly thought provoking ideas. I gave it 4 stars, since I could not rate it 3 stars in deference to many other books that I've read - or started to read, anyway. Michael, lets hope your forthcoming books regain their former piquancy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast ride with a good intellectual/moral pay off.

Lots of action, very moving depiction of a warrior trying to save his people and the toll the saving takes on his soul. War is never easy or simple and surely not for the people who fight it. The action scenes are quite well done. The moral aspects remind me of General U.S. Grant in the American civil war. People called him a butcher but he saved the nation and ended the war.
Williamson is a competent writer and a man who digs deep into the human condition.

Williamson hits another home run with this book. I enjoy his thoughtful work, clear delineation of what is hoped, spouted off and the real world applications. His clean crisp writing style and vivid characters make an excellent story!!

The author is very good at building great characters, good and bad actors. He gives real feelings to them. The story was action packed and fast moving. Good read.

Another well done novel. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

I apologize, I feel very awkward doing these reviews. Who gives a crap what I think? It's important for the author, that's why I do it. The previous series and so far this one is well worth the money. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Mr. Williamson has built a very interesting and entertaining universe. This book follows the adventures of an ex-military civilian team of private security contractors as they guard a head of state in a failed planet. With seemingly everyone against them, they persevere. Reading the next book right away.
