Cool Pictures, But A Missed Opportunity
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2012
The pictures in this book provide one person's view of Los Angeles. They are grimy and surprising and occasionally hopeful. The stories are something else. Very few really seem to lock into the city. Dennis Cruz's does, and it's one of the standouts. The rest are just stories that could be set anyplace. That doesn't mean they're bad. Nikki Guerlain's "Sick Ticket" is a blast, for example. Others are mediocre. Either way, the subtitle is not fulfilled and an opportunity is missed.
