How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Once I started reading “Easily Amused,” I had a hard time putting it down. The plot was captivating, even though the ending was quite predictable. The character development was superb. If I saw Ryan walking down the street, I’d recognize him from a block away. And I’d invite Hubert to come stay with me any day! I want an aunt like this one who would will to me her old house in a quaint old neighborhood like this one. I could see this being made into a movie ... and I hope there will be a sequel. I’ll look for it!

1.0 out of 5 starsI'm sorry that I spent money on it, but at least it was only $1.50.

This was very juvenile writing. I read the whole thing, but I wish I could have that time back. The main character was small minded and not very bright. The other characters were not fleshed out and the writing was somewhat disjointed.

I feel kind of bad about this review, since I've certainly never written a novel myself, but I am an avid reader who depends upon reviews, so here's a heads up, fellow bookworms.

I had a really hard time staying with this book. I did get to the end. However, I felt that the female main character was extremely weak. I also felt that the plot took forever to develop and was not very strong even by the end of the book.

Ok plot, but disappointing in the end. The relationship between the 2 characters who ultimately end up together didn't really ever develop, and the ending felt abrupt. There were also some tasteless scenes that I didn't care for.

2.0 out of 5 stars I tried to so hard to like this book but just couldn't do it because the main character sucks.

I truly wanted to like this book. It has a decent plot, quality writing, and funny side characters. But the main character is such a bitch I just couldn't do it.
Lola inherits an awesome house in a wonderful neighborhood but instead of feeling grateful to the relative she barely knew, or optimistic about the possibilities of a new life, she feels entitled and is thrilled that she finally one-uped her little sister. She is surrounded by welcoming (while nosy) neighbors, good upbeat friends, and has an overall pretty decent life, but she oozes jealousy and excuses. In the first few chapters, she almost sends her life-long friend who needs a place to stay out on the street in the middle of the night instead of allowing him to sleep in one of her three spare bedrooms (in the house she didn't pay for) for one night because he didn't call first.
I get that the author is trying to set her up for a big change of heart, but her selfishness is so all consuming I just could not find it believable or care if someone that bitter found love or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK Book

This book is not just chick lit but "Bridget Jones" like in that the main character is a quirky someone who is just looking for love and it's about how she goes through some strange dating situation only to learn that the most perfect guy is the one that has been under her nose almost her entire life. The book was kind of boring and I finished it just to see it through but I didn't get any real laughs out of it and I never connected with any of the characters.

I found the characters in this book didn't click. I always like to finish a book, but this one took a lot of convincing. If you like romantic hot books, this is not one of them. I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, however, with that being said, if I was looking for a good read, I would appreciate an honest reviewer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unlikable main character and unbelievable supporting characters.
Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2012

The main character in this (in my opinion) puerile novel immediately comes across as sullen and entitled, and doesn't improve as the book continues. The author adds to this mix a street full of quirky neighbors who miraculously don't take offense at the heroine's ill-tempered behavior, but instead are eager to embrace her and include her in their lives. And then there's the implausible mystery man, and the too-good-to-be-true childhood friend. There was nothing genuine about the characters or the actions in this novel. Fortunately it read at about a seventh grade level, so it didn't take me long to make it through this awful book.

I really wanted to like the story and the book, but it's just all over the place. The story just isn't done right. The main players are all really pathetic. I also noticed a few editing errors, such as a missing quote mark, and I PAID for this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beach Read

This is fine, light read. Great for the beach, but there's nothing thought provoking here. Nothing against Karen McQuestion, but I'm starting to feel that Kindle is messing up the Amazon customer review process. To get four stars an author should produce more than the equivalent of a sit-com episode. And I'm wondering, is it a coincidence that I'm running into more and more of these faulty ratings since Kindle came on the scene? Amazon seems to be pushing certain authors, are we all now unwittingly participating in Kindle-published favoritism?

2.0 out of 5 stars not worth it

I usually am only looking for some entertainment when I choose a book. This looked like it might fit, however I was disappointed. None of the characters were appealing and the story line was predictable. The whole best friend as a lover could work if the reader saw anything between the two characters, which I didn't/
