5.0 out of 5 starsThis turned out great!

I will be forever grateful for the day when I was walking through Walmart last year and discovered a paperback copy of the first of the Rescue Me series. Nowhere near the book section of the store, it seemed to be placed next to the dog food I was purchasing specifically so that I could discover it. I took a chance, and brought it home with me.
I read through the first book in two days. Soon after, I couldn't get these characters out of my head, so I purchased the second on Kindle. I also finished that one in two days.
I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this third instalment, and read it all in a single day. It was so good.
I was surprised that the author introduced something new this time around. Certain parts of the book were written from the dog's perspective. I was nervous when I discovered this, because more often than not, it turns out corny and juvenile. Thankfully, that's not what happened here. Burns didn't overdo it, and it was a good representation without being over the top.
The love story was sweet, paced well, and not gratuitous. I truly enjoyed it. I will definitely be on the watch for another addition to the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story for dog lovers

I am really enjoying the Resue Me stories. Tess and Mason are great characters and I liked how they met and slowly worked their way into a relationship. The chapters from the dogs' point of view are genius. I confess to being a little disappointed in the ending. Yes, they were together but I wanted to see the reunion between John Ronald and the puppies, and find out who adopted Zoe, and know Mason recovered well and played again and how Tess coped with the notoriety. Ah, well, everything leading up to that was great.

Discovered this series in an ad at the back of another book and bought all three with the hopes that this romance series with dogs would be as good as Jenn McKinlay's two romance series. I read this book first and enjoyed it. The conflict in the romance is fairly mild, but the rest of the story is so engaging, I wasn't bothered by it. I liked that there are a few passages told from the dog's perspective which filled in the dog's story. Looking forward to reading the other two in the series. (some language)

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorable and Sweet Romance and Adopted Huskie!
Reviewed in the United States šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø on November 27, 2018
I adored the book before this in the series and wanted to keep going with more of the same heartwarming romance and cutie shelter dog co-stars. I found it moderately engaging and enjoyed the rescue shelter world once again.

My Forever Home takes up the story of Tess who does dog therapy and Mason a baseball player who is recovering from an injury along with John Ronald a stray Huskie. The book is third in the Rescue Me series and is connected to the other two with recurring characters and the shelter, but can also work fine as a standalone.

Tess has returned from a long sojourn in Europe where she worked and traveled while trying to get a handle on her life. Her nonno's ill health and death bring her home to St. Louis. Tess plans to start up her own pet therapy business and in the meantime is working with the abused dogs that were brought in from a dog fighting ring bust at the rescue shelter. She encounters Mason who is trying to help a neighbor with their dog and also trying to coax a stray huskie into trusting him. They hit it off and share a love for dogs, but Tess isn't aware Mason is a big time baseball pro who plans to get back in the game after his injuries heal and he keeps it a secret which you can imagine doesn't stay a secret.
Tess, on the other hand has some issues that complicate things even beyond Mason's secret. She was the oopsie kid who came late in the family and her parents were always distant and her siblings much older. She tends to start things and not stick with them. She doesn't have a lot of confidence in herself or accepting that others see her differently than she does. Now, she is sorting through the family situation after her grandfather died and working hard to get her business off the ground. It takes a stray dog to keep this pair together.

I liked it. I wanted to love it because I like slow burn, heartwarming romances, circle of friends, adorable animals, and family situations. But, I couldn't seem to get past like. I think the big reason was nothing reached out and pulled me in. I was easily distracted and had no trouble putting it down or read other things between book encounters though, that said, I wasn't reluctant to pick it back up.

The plot was cozy and heartwarming and easy-reading. I definitely was rooting for Tess and Mason to take their chance at happiness. He was good for her and she, for him. Their time together working with the dogs and spending time against the backdrop of the holidays made it fun. John Ronald and especially the occasions when that dog got the narration were the highlights for me. Tess' issues and Mason's secret were not overblown for which I was glad since I didn't find them huge things, but other than that it was cute and sweet.

So, it was all right. I preferred the book before it, but didn't dislike this one. I'll definitely take a look when the next installment comes out. I think it will be for those who adore dog side characters, gently-paced and gently plotted slow burn contemporary romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Forever Home
Reviewed in the United States šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø on December 5, 2018
My Forever Home is a wonderfully cozy and heartwarming read. It is just made to tug at you, through both animal and people. You totally understand why Mason keeps who he is from Tessa and the revelation works well with their relationship as it has developed. And while there is the opportunity, I really appreciate that Burns avoids melodrama and handles issues quickly and realistically.

While I feel that Mason had good development as a character, I do wish we’d gotten a little more of Tessa’s family. Her issues with her family is what sent her on a tour of Europe, but while it is hit upon I think that it could have used a little more. I do love her relationship with her grandmother – their closeness is so sweet and I loved the support there.

As much as I love Mason and Tessa’s relationship, it is the connection with John Ronald that is really the highlight of the book. The look inside his mind brings happiness, sadness, and humor. Some may not like the personification of a dog, but it works for me.

Like Sit, Stay, Love, My Forever Home is one of those easy to read, slow burn books that takes it time creating connection between the characters – exploring them as people and how they relate to each other. Mason & Tessa manage to find each other at a time when both are ready for the next phase and it creates a delightfully satisfying HEA. I’m so looking forward to what Burns has in store for us next.

My Forever Home (Rescue Me #3) by Debbie Burns

M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Tess is amazing with animals. She wanted to be a vet, but realized that she wanted more than to just fix broken or sick animals. When she realizes that she is floundering, she heads back to her grandma's house to figure out what her next steps are. Tess was the accidental child and she knew it. But, once she came to grips with it, she realized that she had a lot of love, just not directly from her parents. When she realizes that she can truly help animals, she sets out to start a business. But, she is finding it much more difficult than she anticipated. When she is worrying about her new business, she sees a stranger in a park trying to catch a dog, she knows that she can help. That stranger was Mason.

Mason is a baseball player who is also known for taking some unnecessary risks. While recovering from a car crash, he is helping his neighbor with his dog and is having difficulty with getting the dog to stay on the leash. Mason also has noticed a stray dog that is wanting to trust, but isn't sure how. Mason is instantly taken with Tess' ability to handle animals.

These two have a slow burn relationship. I like how we were able to see the mind behind John Ronald too. I thought that it lent a lot to the story to see his past as well. This is a sweet story about finding love, holding on to it and letting yourself find happiness. I really enjoyed the secondary characters too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved returning to this series again with a unique couple and an adorable dog
Reviewed in the United States šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø on November 27, 2018
My Forever Home is the third story in the Rescue Me series. And once again my heart was captured by not only this couple but a stray Husky with definite opinions of his own (in his own unique voice).

Tess and Mason make an interesting couple, each with a love of dogs, strays of the world and the work they do. Unfortunately, Tess is unaware of Mason’s real job, as a professional baseball player and a rather famous one as well. That oversight on Mason’s part will matter, and may even be the ending of something between them that could be amazing.

I enjoyed Mason and Tess’ romance, it’s a slow burn in many ways and they are both likable people who fit well together. I adored John Ronald who stole scenes with his personality, his voice, his devotion and dedication to a rescue of his own. We get to visit again with old friends, and as always, the shelter is the center of this world.

If you’re in the mood for a good story, a tender romance, a bit of hiding in plain sight and love animals at all… then My Forever Home is a story you’ll want to pick up. I had such a good time with this story and would recommend this and the entire series to any Romance reader.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

4.0 out of 5 stars Very sweet
Reviewed in the United States šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø on December 2, 2018
This was exceedingly sweet. The subplot about the stray dog, John Ronald, finding his ā€œforever homeā€ will tug on your heartstrings.

Tess meets Mason when she helps him catch the dog he’s walking for his neighbor. She doesn’t recognize that he’s a superstar baseball player for the home team. Meanwhile, her property is stolen and Mason is captivated. He enjoys his anonymity with Tess and getting to know her as they bond over dogs without having her know who he is.

Usually, I find stories that involve one of the main characters hiding his/her identity to be irritating. We all know that the big reveal is coming and that there will be some fight until the other person forgives. I was waiting for that to happen in this book and it did, but the conflict was over quickly and then everything is pretty smooth from there.

I guess I kept waiting for there to be more to the plot than two nice, appealing people meeting and falling in love and taking care of stray dogs. Mason has been injured and worries that he won’t be able to play again at the same MVP-candidate level. That is totally unresolved.

Tess worries about fitting into Mason’s world where everyone is watching and reporting on him. That gets smoothed over pretty easily and quickly.

I just wanted a bit more plot development.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt Romance and Furry Friends
Reviewed in the United States šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø on November 27, 2018
Any book that has pets in it, and especially one with an emphasis on rescue animals, is a winner for me. Tess is trying to start a pet therapy business, and she stops to help a man get his energetic dog back on the leash. The dog is recovered easily enough, but in the meantime, someone has stolen Tess's belongings. Her business plan, client testimonials and all of her research, gone. Little does she know, the man she helped and is in danger of falling for is none other than professional baseball star, Mason Redding.

The early copy I read of this book is my first by this author and there were many things I liked about it. In spite of being wordy at times and a couple of subplots not being fully resolved, this book kept my attention with it's compelling, poignant storyline. One special touch, done extremely well, was a few scenes written from the dog's point of view. The book has a wonderful sense of community with the animal shelter background, and quirky, memorable secondary characters. Add to that the subplots with the dog’s, and this book had me eager to see how things turned out. My interest is piqued and I’ll be reading more from this author in the future.

*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
