To be honest, the story was pretty predictable. At times it read like a Tyler Perry production. Madea would’ve fit right in. It still turned out to be very entertaining. As each secret came to light, I found myself more invested. The four sisters were each interesting in their own way. The ending was touching. I would love to see this turned into a movie.

I was expecting more but this storyline was just okay…. Secrets that were easy to figure out. A storyline that’s been told over and over again especially in black families. No surprises just an okay story that was borderline boring.

Sisterhood and family secrets make for good storytelling

ReShonda has done it again! This was such a great story about sisterhood and family secrets. Mama Pearly is gravely ill and wants her feuding daughters to reconcile but not only does she want them to mend fences, but lift the burden of the deepest, darkest secrets they’re all carrying. My favorite line from the book was when Mama Pearly said, “Oh, it’s about to be some consequences and repercussions.” Lol! I loved this book!

I was hooked at the mention that this fictional story was based on 4 Sisters from Arkansas, including a set of twins - since my Mom is a twin, has 4 sisters, and is from Arkansas! LOL . But, OMG, these sisters are/were something else! Miss Pearly knew...Secrets never really stay secret. I seriously read this book on a plane trip from Houston to LA, and immediately told my first cousin about it, and passed the book on to her to read (our Mom's are the twins).
Another great book from Reshonda Tate Billingsley.

This was a great book. It was about how secrets could destroy a family or bring one together. Mother Pearly was gravely ill and asked that her four daughters come together and share all their secrets. And there were many! As in most black families, we are told to keep things in the family don't tell anybody, as Mother Pearly taught them. But these things hurt the family. The storyline was good and I was surprised by the ending!

This is my first ReShonda Tate Billingsley and I am now on a mission to read all of her other books this summer.
She managed to create a world full of characters who burrow into your heart and take you in an emotional ride: is this person a villain or a victim? Why is that person so mean? So angry? Who hurt her? Why did they hurt each other? Billingsley gives us all of the surface-level issues so that we form certain views and then BOOM! She delves deeper. Each character is nuanced and well-written. This is just so beautifully done. Trust me. Read this!
Now I’m off to buy all of her other books! Happy reading!
