Okay. had pre-ordered this book. Got my notification at 1:30 am. Never should have checked my email..LOL It is now 4"09 am on the 10th of March and I just read the last line......There surely must another David Wolf book in the works..........These books are addicting. Each one has everything you'd ever want in a book. The story keeps moving and the characters are very real people. I can hardly wait for the next book. I don't want to say too much and ruin it for other readers but everything that happened leads one to believe that this not over. Another mystery is waiting to be solved. HURRY UP AND finish the next book......LOL

Scenario TOTALLY unrealistic.
I don't know if author ever served in military, but if he did- He should know better! Takes a 50 caliber sniper rifle on his one man rescue mission and then tries to cut down a tree with a 5.53 caliber(M-16 caliber) weapon a mile from the enemy! Fires over 60 rounds into the tree. I returned the book, won't read anything else from this author. Must be self published- Any editor would have rejected this as written.

5.0 out of 5 stars ..."watch Wolf and his friends as they're pushed to their physical, mental, and emotional limits"...

SBCSD Chief Detective David Wolf is called to the murder scene of Pat Xander... Xander's last client was Detective Tom Rachette, who is no longer answering his phone... Wolf receives a message and must face his past in order to save Rachette... Former SBCSD Detective Heather Patterson tries to reach Wolf after receiving a cryptic message of her own...

The tenth book in the series has us visiting Rocky Points and the people who live there — all are old friends now. Readers are (once again) given the chance to follow the clues along with Wolf and the others to try to solve the case. This story was full of twists and turns that every good mystery needs. As the investigation proceeded, I had certain parts worked out, but I was wrong about other parts. There were still a few surprises in store before the big reveal. I really liked the end and I am looking forward to reading RAIN to see how it continues...

I thoroughly enjoyed DARK LAKE and I hope this series continues for a long time (yes, I am a fan!).

When you're in charge of something, it's easy to make enemies for no justifiable reason. David Wolf had a close friend, SPC Paul Womack, when they were Rangers doing missions together. When David was promoted over Paul, everything soured between them, and shortly after, Paul committed a horrific war crime and went to prison. Now, 15 years later, murder and kidnapping in Wolf's town are somehow connected to Paul and his sharpshooter brother. Wolf has to figure out what is going on and try to rescue his co-worker and friend, Deputy Tom Rachette.

Since this is book 10 of a great, very popular series I won't give you the backstory, except to say the gangs all here! The fact is, this book stands alone well. If this is the first of the series you read, you won't be disappointed. You will want to buy the other 9 books in the series to read, though!

The suspense in this complex storyline is really top-notch. The writing is fast-moving and there are some wonderful surprises especially at the end. Author, Jeff Carson, has written another engrossing and enjoyable tale of David Wolf and his friends!

5+ Stars. Short review: Read it! Jeff Carson is a must buy, must read author. His David Wolf series is thoroughly enjoyable, compelling and most of all, realistic.

Easy to follow stand-alone that draws the reader into the storyline. You feel the emotions of the characters, easily inserting yourself in their thought process.

Believable characters with distinct personalities and issues that make them all the more realistic.

Interesting, informative, thought-provoking and snarky dialogue.

The ME rolled his eyes and leaned down to her with a lowered voice. “Facebook Live, a laptop and a smart phone, and we’re in the building with them. I came up with the idea.”

Well, like Dad used to say, ‘Put your sh@@ back in your a@@!"

Four evenings ago, he’d brushed shoulders with death more than once. He’d resigned himself to dying. More than that, he’d expected it. He’d held his final breath, felt warm blood on his face, and never expected to take another. And yet now he lived. Coming out of the ordeal, he felt an underlying impatience with any of the bullsh@@, petty pursuits of the normal lives of the living.

I will re-read this story and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff nails it, again

I am biased--I will admit that outright. I have met and gotten to know Jeff over the last handful of years. He is a good man/husband and father. So I already thought highly of him. When he told me he would be writing books about the area (fictional but still with some clever accuracy) and in a topic I enjoy reading--I was very intrigued. Now, in his 10th David Wolfe book--he is only getting better with each passing story. I lost some sleep because I was having trouble putting the book down. Am I the only one who reads at night--and when I feel my eyes getting heavy-try and find a good spot to save my place to start again? Well-even if I am in the minority-I was having issues finding a good stopping point. I wanted to keep going, find out what 'happens next' in the story. Lost sleep or not--it was worth it. Another very good book that kept my attention and interest the entire time. Great job! As always-looking forward to more David Wolfe stories and anything else you might come up with.

The brilliance of Mr. Carson’s writing is his use of subtle clues. Readers don;t catch them as reveled. Later it gives surprising “ah ha!” Moments. Tread lightly as you enjoy the journey of each story. There are diamonds to be found.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put it down after you start reading, Bet you can't.

Reading this book was like watching a giant roll of coiled steel rolling down a grade, picking up speed as the grade got steeper and steeper to the bottom. That was my take on the Rising Action. The Falling Action came after I was virtually exhausted from the foregoing.Climax was totally exciting. Very well done leading to a neat Resolution at the end.
Carson was just unrelenting in the telling of Dark Mountain. I have read all his books and think this was the best of the lot. I don't re tell story lines in my reviews, but if after reading this book you don't come out with a large WHEW!, then I don't know what it takes for an author, any author, to get your adrenaline going.
Be warned, however, this one is a bit gritty in spots so read at your own caution. Will you be satisfied with the story line at the end of this read? Yes you will.

I have been reading this series in order since stumbling into the first one. I had no idea there were sixteen yarns to peruse and I hope the author is busily writing more because I dread having to look for another writer who can entertain me as well as this one does. I recommend these books to anyone with an ounce of analytical thinking talent and a milligram of curiosity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Mountain (The David Wolf Series Book 10)

David Wolf receives a video of a former friend in the army who appears to commit sucide. Heather Patterson had quit the department in the last book to spend more time with her family. David is taking resumes to try and fill her vacant position. Paul Womack is the friend in the army and you have to read what he had done to have spent 15 years in prison. Paul has a younger brother who is awarded marksman with a 50 cal sniper rifle. The jest is that Wolf believes Paul Womacks brother is out to kill him to avenge his brother. This is a must read, way too much excitement and endangerment. There are a few surprises that I believe you will all enjoy. I now have read all of the Wolf series and waiting for the next one to come out.

Jeff Carson has woven another great tale about the characters you will come know as people with flaws that you cannot help but love because of the love they have for each their in spite of their flaws. The suspense will keep you glued to the pages until the very end and when you reach the last of this episode, you cannot wait to join David Wolf in the next chapter of his life engrossing yourself once again in another mystery hoping that for once Wolf and his partners will come out unscathed.
