How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe first since Clancy to read like a Clancy novel
Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018
For a few years, I kept buying and reading the novels out of habit, keeping up with the characters but always feeling let down by plot and characterizations. That was until I read this one. Cameron captured the key players very well, handled minor players and cameo appearances with skill not seen since Tom Clancy was doing the writing, and finally coming up with and executing a plot that had enough intricacy to be worthy of Clancy. Welcome back.

2.0 out of 5 starsVery dissappointing
Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2018
Very dissappointing. I stopped reading when I realized that I am at the midpoint of the book and still do not know the main story. The prose is full of cliches that are repeated much too often. A great number of irrelevant details are mentioned about each character and location—mentioned once and never appear again. We are told how tall each person is and how old he or she is, as if this were a medical insurance claim, and then no other reference is given to the age or height of the person. Why was it mentioned? Despite these details it is impossible to visualize or temember anything about the people in the book. There is no cohesion to the events. If a thousand students (or computers) were assaigned to write an episode each, the result would read like this novel. I should not even call it a novel: it is a steady stream of scenes with a great many names of people, streets, and organizations, and no plot that I could explain even though I have read half of the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Good.

Unlike a lot of people who have posted reviews of this book, I didn’t like it. I’ve read all of the Clancy books. This one is just plain not very good. Boring. Slow moving plot. If you want to read it, there are always libraries.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only the 2nd Tom Clancy Collection book I can't read - TERRIBLE

After Clancy passed, there was a terrible book written by an author who wrote in a manner of the "Anti-Clancy" style. They must have brought the same terrible author back for this book. I am 38% of the way through this book and can't tell you what has happened so far since the writing is SO distracting. The author uses way too many words to describe completely unnecessary aspects. He used over 20 words to describe a type of binoculars, material of a jacket, and the fanney-pack for a bodyguard - BUT I can't tell you what happened in the story so far. TERRIBLE - PLEASE NEVER BRING BACK THIS AUTHOR IF YOU WANT TO PROTECT THE CLANCY FRANCHISE!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars There is no there, there.

Pretty much a waste of time reading and money spent on this book. This author cannot be compared to Mr Clancy and in my opinion, should not be granted the use of Mr Clancy’s characters and story lines. If you have read all of Tom Clancy’s books, your time is better spent re-reading some of them instead of being hugely disappointed with this sophomoric attempt of a novel. It’s bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wandering plot(s) and prose

A tough read. I gave up a third of the way through. There is no plot structure; each chapter wanders into some different place with no motivation to the reader of how anything is related. The writing style is painful too; whole pages are devoted to descriptions of seemingly irrelevant things., I really have no interest in how each character is currently dressed.

1.0 out of 5 stars My last one.

Since about 2015 these novels just get worse and worse. This one is perhaps the bottom. Formulaic, with no real tension or suspense, cookie cutter villains both foreign and domestic. In trying to be a balance between a White House and a Campus novel, it fails at both.

Enjoyed the great reads that he gave us, but with his death it is not only not the same, but quite a bit less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorest of the Jack Ryan noval series
Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2019

Having read most of Clancy's Jack Ryan-related novels, this one doesn't approach the Clancy standard, even for a ghostwriter. The story was hard to follow, the characters disjointed and the storyline fractured. The cohesiveness one has come to expect from Clancy was missing. Rather than being a page turner, the reader slogs to the disappointing end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch

This product was advertised to me through Audible. I was lead to believe that it was an audio book. I had planned to listen to it when I was going to take a long distance drive from Florida to Pennsylvania. Then it showed up as Kindle, saying that if I wanted it converted to an audio book, I would have to pay an additional $10. +. I believe that this was a bait and switch.
Haven't started reading it yet. Deeply disappointed in this.

Took off slowly, stayed pretty much that way, with a fairly bad ending. Kept waiting for it to move, but this was a poor, very poor attempt of a Hack Ryan book!
