Interesting reading this series. Of course the guy who commits the "reset" that kills millions of American, & his cadre are treated as heros because they intend to "return this nation to what the original founding fathers intended: a Christian Libertarian nation".
And isn't it wonderful that they & theirs were fully prepared with secure hide-sways, massive amounts of food, medical supplies, guns & ammo, and stockpiles of gold, on their own private peninsula before they triggered the grid collapse to bring everything else crashing down.
In spite of the heavy hand preaching, it's mostly an good-to-ok read. But I really had to pause st the point where the alleged "good guys" enlist Putin's aid to sabotage the "evil & dictatorial President" (an extremely thinly disguised President Obama).
Interesting to me that even in fiction, members of the far Right have no problem committing treason with Russians to sabotage the U.S. reading this series with the benefit of current events is prophetic in that there doesn't seem to be any limit to the number of people to kill in "resetting" the U.S. to match their own agendas.
MR. Akart, if you were writing stories that followed how individuals, who, tragically misled by their own sense of moral superiority, ultimately committed monstrous & treasonous acts while in pursuit of a lofty goal, then this series would be an outstanding success. This is in fact, a cautionary tale that shows how brave men & woman with noble intentions & The sacrificial willingness to pledge their lives , fortunes, & honor to promote & defend the Constition & their viewpoints on American values--can slide step by painful step into hubris.
As for how Mr. Akart portrays members of the U.S. Armed Forces...omg. Apparently the only decent Military folks are those who are members of Oathkeepers or "those who think like us"
All other military members are one dimensional characters who are venally interested in power or money & can't be concerned with any moral or philosophical issues. No honest differences in opinion allowed.
I think I am most saddened because I believe Mr. Akart has the talent to write more in depth characters/more nuanced situations. I believe if he hadn't been so focused on writing "prepper porn" to preach his political views, that instead of writing a good-ish series, he could have written a great one that could have sparked conversations & dialogue.
