I wait every year for Christmas to get the latest Alex Cross book. I have been buying the hard cover for my niece (who's now 36) before Kindle existed. She still gets the hard cover edition with a letter from her crazy old aunt (I'm 55 and terminally ill with a rare form of leukemia, but I'm a fighter) telling her how beautiful, smart and proud I am of her plus a gift card to one of her favorite places. It's our tradition. I don't have children of my own, nor does she. It's my fondest wish that she continues this tradition with her nephew, my great nephew and I think Mr. Patterson's books for young readers might be the place to begin. So, this is more than a book to me, it's years of watching a baby grow into a young woman. It's family, like the Cross family.
This is the best new Alex Cross book I've read in a while. I was screaming at Alex a few chapters before the end because I thought I had it figured out. But, as usual, my heart wasn't expecting the emotional rollercoaster it went on, I love this character and all of his family and friends, I have from the beginning. I can easily see this being turned into a movie if Tyler Perry will reprise his role. I was very unsure of him at first, Madea replacing Morgan Freeman??? But, I was pleasantly surprised and can't think of another African-American, the right age, to play such a layered character as Dr. Alex Cross!
If you're a fan of the earlier Alex Cross books, you WILL NOT be disappointed. I hope I'm around to continue this tradition for several more years, maybe they'll come up with a cure and Mr. Patterson will have to continue turning these out, every Christmas! Y'all are going to love it!!!
