Great if you have a 1984-1996 "XJ" Cherokee; the book was not updated to cover changes for 1997-2001 vehicles

This isn't the book for owners of 1997-2001 Cherokees.
We bought this book for our son in 2012, when he purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. (Not the Grand Cherokee, the plain old Cherokee.)
The problem with this book is that it's focused on the earlier versions of that long-lived vehicle. The "XJ" Cherokee was manufactured from 1984 through 2001, but was refreshed several times. There was a significant redesign of the body and mechanical components in 1997, and of the engine in 1999, and this book pretty much ignores them.
So if you have a 1984-1996 Cherokee, this book is a wealth of information. If you have a 1997-2001, you won't find much, unless of course it's for the parts that weren't changed in the 1997 update.
