Top critical review
Not A+ from an experienced outdoor educator

I hesitate to give a less than stellar review, but as someone who scrutinizes reviews prior to making purchases, I'd like to be honest.
This is a nice book. The design is better than most, the instructions and pictures are good. For someone who is new to gardening with children, there are some good ideas in a nice format. I see that many of the reviews are from grandparents or parents - if that is you, this might be a great choice!
Here's where I am disappointed - I am an experienced environmental educator. I have developed nature and gardening programs for 15 years. I purchased this book because of the title and because it was described as "EXPERIMENTS." I was looking for gardening activities with a science component and hoping for some fresh ideas to incoporate into programming at my workplace. An experiment is a scientific procedure where you make a discovery or test a hypothesis. E.g. "Plant this and see what happens." The lessons included are not experiments, they are activities (e.g. make a rain gauge, decorate flower pots). Some of the activities are rather tired - e.g. planting a salsa garden is heavily recycled.
If I had an opportuntiy to flip through this book in person prior to ordering, I not have purchased it. I plan to either return it or perhaps gift it to someone who is new to engaging children in the outdoors.
