5.0 out of 5 starsHow to avoid, run from, or de-escalate a bad situation
Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2018
I can't comment on the physical self-defense / fighting stuff, 'cause I've never done, couldn't do, any of that. But, turning 70 and knowing that old people can be targets, I wanted to learn how to better recognize, avoid, run from, and (at last resort) de-escalate bad situations involving people prone to settling things physically, or using violence to get what they want. The insights and tips in this book on these points are remarkable, fascinating really. And they work. I recently found myself cornered by a physically-imposing fellow yelling at me because he did not like the way I was acting in a particular dispute with a third-party. I followed this book's de-escalation script to the letter, and the threat melted away, we ended up smiling and shaking hands. This book is worth reading, even if you skip all the martial arts stuff, as I did. Especially if your work or travel takes you to unfamiliar places, places outside your comfort bubble.
