One sister who is smart, educated, going somewhere as a lawyer; however, she was never pushing high enough according to mom. No one knows, but she is an alcoholic who gets hooked on pain pills. She is separated from her cheating husband and having trouble finding the pills she needs, so she ends up buying g them from a sleepy fat guy out of his car trunk. She finds ally realizes bow bad her addiction is and she packs up her 11 month old son and goes to her sisters and dumps him for his safety.
Second sister made it through school with C' s, never excelled at anything but music. According to mom, she will never be able to support herself with her music and no one will buy her
songs...it is nothing more than a hobby. She needs to get herself a good job.
Mom dies and afterward the lives of both sisters change drastically.
This is a very good story. It shows how people who seem to be functioning just fine can be terribly dysfunctional and need real help. A most definite book to read. I am enjoying all of Julia's Contemporary stories.
