I loved this trilogy

This trilogy covers times and places in abundance. It has fascinating folklore, monsters and two wonderful, soulful heros. A male and a female. The setting, in Japan is exotic, as is the folklore and all the information about the samurai life. The endless amazing circumstances described throughout the books are so interesting and added to my interest and excitement.

The most important thing I have to say is that I believe that these books would make a fabulous animated film. Thank you for sharing these books, I loved them. Heather Cowan

A decent and satisfying ending to the Ronin trilogy, the Spirit of the Ronin builds to a wild climax with the 2nd Mongol invasion of Japan (the first invasion wreaks havoc at the end of Book 2), with, all the while, our love-lorn Ronin and princess pining for each other. The author truly hits his stride in this tale, and it shows, and it shines.

Throughout the series, there are several scenes and references that are head-scratchers, and left me wondering if those scenes had been tossed in randomly, while other scenes had been edited out, and the references not cleaned up or something.

One "head-scratcher," however, was solved by reading the "2.5" story; basically, the author seems to have siphoned a few pages from Book 3 to make another short story. It answered questions, but I felt ripped off, as I believe it should have been included in Book 3 rather than making the reader buy another book—that only answered questions after the fact.

Overall, a decent and fun series, with Book 3 being well worth the journey. The journey of a Ronin!

I am really enjoying the growth in the characters and the setting in this novel. The author's take on the Oni remind me of the Viking legends particularly of the dwarf who became a dragon because of unbending greed and a cruel nature that was named Fafnir and part of the Sigurd legend.

In this tale it begins with Ken'ishi taking service with a lord and no longer being ronin and becoming a samurai. I don't want to give spoilers beyond that but it gets really entertaining from there. Highly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed the third volume of the Ronin Trilogy, "Sprit of the Ronin". I read the book in three sittings in two days; I could not put it down. You developed the boy into a man, and ended it as only a fully mature Ronin would be expected to go on with his life and circumstances. I am not a writer myself, but I really appreciate your style, story telling and significant research to tell it correctly. I reread Volume 2 in order to be ready for Volume 3. Again, excellent finish to this part of his life; but looking forward to any adventures he may have in the future.

I love the Ronin series, but the ending was very much rushed. I was disappointed with the ending somewhat although the outcome was impressive. The culture that was implemented in the story was great as well. This was my least favorite of this great series, but the series is still very good. A must read.

For a 'gaijin', Heermann has impressively captured the 'spirit' of the ronin in all three books. I would have never guessed that he spent only 3 years in Japan. The ronin have mythically been revered and idolized as heroes much like the English knights of chivalry. But the essence of being samurai is so unique in the Japanese culture.
