I had high hopes for this book/series. I even bought it on audible. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. It was weird and confusing. Sam was a walking disaster. She was weak, had massive TSTL tendencies, zero business sense (its ridiculous that the bar even works, given how ridiculously low staffed it is and no mention of upkeep/real work), and my biggest pet peeve, Sam needed rescuing for majority of this book. She couldn't save herself in 99% of the situations she put herself in. How many times do you need to leave your home alone, at night, after being attacked over and over again? Plus, the women being brutally murdered? Forgotten about as quickly as they were thrown into the story. I felt zero chemistry between Sam and Clive, and I wasn't even drawn into the story. A mysterious past that only showed to highlight how ignorant Sam is about herself and the world she lives in. Clive is some rich vampire willing to pay for everything and is automatically obsessed with Sam, which felt lame. So much of this book falls on cliches and obvious tropes. I know that in a couple of days nothing about this book will stand out. Utterly forgettable.
I still give this 2.5 stars rounded up to 3, purely because the cover is great, and the writing isn't bad. It's the story itself I didn't like.
