5.0 out of 5 starsOne of My Favorite Reads of 2018!!! I am in Love with this Story!!!!!
Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018
We use millions of words to describe things we love. Out of all those words the one that instantly comes to mind to describe “The Protègè” by Brianna Hale is Perfect! This book is absolutely Perfect!!! It is so beautifully written. Lazlo and Isabeau are a couple that you can connect to in an instant. Their love story is not convenient but oh so magical. The way they fit together is so phenomenal! This is a couple that was made for each other. Through all the hard times they went through they still only cared for each others happiness. You can feel the want between them and when they play together the sparks Fly off the pages!! This story is perfection! There really is no other word that can describe this!

“But I fell in love with Isabeau in between the music”

I fell so hard in love with this book! Isabeau and Laszlo have stolen my heart. I am so in love with them. They are a couple who will stick with me for a long time! This is one of my Favorite reads of this year!! Their journey from beginning to end was challenging and beautiful and so worth every minute! Isabeau and Laszlo go through so much heart ache to get to where they are. I was hooked on them from the very beginning and my heart broke right along with them but they also put all the pieces of my heart right back together.

“I felt a longing for him so great it was almost unbearable.”

Even through the heart ache they managed to fight for their happiness. This was such a sexy read as well. Laszlo man, he knows what he wants and exactly how to give it!! It was so sexy!! Their chemistry can light your kindle on fire!! They are so perfect for each other!! I love that once Isabeau discovered what she wanted with Laszlo’s help she wasn’t afraid to ask for it. She took what she wanted. It was so freaking hot!!!

“I know exactly how to be Isabeau’s dom. I really ….. want to be Isabeau’s dom.”

This book is truly wonderful. It is everything I didn’t know I was looking for. I am so in love with this story and I always will be. I highly recommend you pick this one up and give it a read. Even if its not your “thing” you should still read it it might just surprise you! This book is EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

“You’re not a closed book anymore. You’re a piece of music I can read as easily as a symphony.”

3.0 out of 5 starsEnded up so disappointed!
Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2021
It started out so, so good! The tension, and how the back story played out, and watching them both tip-toe towards honesty with each other. And then it just dived head first into hardcore intensity for like a single scene, then got cheesy and also confusing, and ended cringey.

I seriously skimmed the "big scene" at the end because it was so ridiculous.

So disappointed! I really liked both characters and the storyline was good. The last third could have stuck to something less dramatic and would have been a better book for it. There was already enough going on to have a torturous will-they-won't-they ending without throwing something that wasn't a big part of the story in at the very end.

There are some tropes I avoid...guardian/ward is normally one of them BUT when a favorite author has one that catches your eye, what can you do but one-click?!?!

I am really impressed with the world Brianna created in this book. I know nothing about orchestras but left this book feeling like I had lived the life. The characters' feelings and emotions about the music they played really moved me.

I loved that Isabeau was self aware and willing to explore the world and herself before coming back to Laszlo to try again.

I enjoyed the DD/lg elements of this story, they definitely touched on the darker/rougher side which is always fun. 😉

I'm also a huge fan of a good age gap in a relationship and while it wasn't really a sticking point in this story, it was a clearly understood fact.

I didn't fully understand/enjoy the development of their relationship but that's on me, not the author. It's not a usual trope for me for that reason...but I can see great writing and story telling and enjoy it from that standpoint.

I really enjoyed this book it’s my first book from this author. The story is about a girl who at the young age of 8yrs old is out in the street playing her cello in order to make money to support her father and her self, since her father is addicted to drugs since he was in a car accident where her mother passed away. Laszlo sees her playing in the street and takes her to her house only to find out her father is in no condition to take care of her. He then becomes her guardian. I love the Dd/lg kink. I felt the book had a great story line but the epilogue was so sudden and wish it was better, overall I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to anyone who can’t resist taboo relationship.

I thought this was good! It could have been shorter. There was a lot of more slow parts about music which makes sense because of their careers but it also wasn’t really necessary. It could have been glazed over to keep the pace up.

I very much enjoyed Lazlo and Isabeau story. Told from dual perspectives and a Then and Now time frame we get a complete picture of how things unfold. I didn’t give it Five Stars because it was too much like the Trilogy of books I had just read. I know it was NOT the authors fault for that but it is just how I feel. It was still worth Four Stars. 🎻🎻🎻🎻

I have enjoyed several BDSM type books. I liked this story. I liked the characters and I was never bored. I prefer books where the submissive uses a name other than Daddy. This book is not for everyone but if you enjoy this type of book and aren’t turned off by the Daddy word it’s worth reading.

I really enjoyed the dark romance. Daddy kinks aren’t my thing, but the romance was passionate and deep. Kind of felt like Phantom of the Opera with a happier ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read!

Laszlo was Isabeau's ward before he became her lover.

That's the book synopsis and if that is a trigger, this isn't the book for you. There is also a DD/lg component with darker BDSM elements added.

Laszlo saves Isabeau from the streets and gives her what her father can't. Not only does he give her a home but he cultivates her gift of music and brings out the beauty that she has in her fingers and in her heart. You learn about the characters through flash backs. He mentors her and brings out her best and just when it's time to let her go and fly, Isabeau decides that she wants something that he isn't prepared to give.

The characters are well developed, the story line is brilliant. The research that went into this book is thorough and great. I fell for the love story right away and couldn't put the book down. I began cheering for Laszlo and Isabeau early in the book and watched him care for his young protégé. You see the hints of dominance early; guiding her dating / non dating decisions, choices of good food, changing her schedule and offering structure. Isabeau has been raised on this dominance and immediately craves the structure when it's gone.

Brianna Hale takes great steps to separate any "official" age of consent issues. The blurred line between childhood and adulthood is razor thin but it is there. Again, all of that being said, this book is so goooood! I enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 HIGHLY Dark and Sexy Stars!!!!

"Tell her you’re sorry. For everything. Even the things she doesn’t know about."

First of all, if are not familiar with Brianna Hale, you MUST read one of her books! I love them ALL. But this one might be my favorite. From the exotic settings to the classical music to the behind-the-scenes workings of a professional orchestra, this story just wowed me!

Brianna Hale really knows how to establish a connection between her main characters. Laszlo is a brilliant, difficult and renowned conductor who takes an interest in Isabeau when she is very young girl. He sees that she has enormous potential but her father is a drug addict and she is living in abject poverty. He takes her under his wing and provides the best musical education possible. She blossoms under his tutelage.

"I’m mesmerized by the sound she’s making and I want to grab passers-by and make them listen until they understand what they’re witnessing. Raw, natural talent. A child’s simplistic style, yes, and she seems to have developed a few bad habits in the way she holds her bow, but these things are easily corrected. As she grows she could get much, much better. She could be world class."

As Isabeau matures into a brilliant musician and a beautiful young woman, things change between her and Laszlo. They both need each other but Laszlo pushes her away, maybe permanently. But Isabeau is not complete without her maestro and she comes back to see Laszlo for the first time in years.

"My heart bangs like a timpani drum against my ribs hearing his name. Laszlo Valmary, conductor and musical director of the Royal London Symphony Orchestra and my former guardian and mentor. I’ve come straight from the train, luggage and all, to face the man I haven’t spoken to in three years. Now that I’m in London again I feel him on every street I walk down, in every strain of music I hear, in the very air I breathe."

This book is so romantic!!! Yes, it is also very kinky but it is so beautifully written and the story flows so well that you will become enraptured by these characters and the gorgeous and exotic settings. I finished this book on a long plane ride and I can still hear the characters' words in my head!! Now that's a great book.

"There are so many things I want to say to Laszlo. Most importantly that I’m sorry, but also that the happiest time of my life was when I was his protégé. That my musical career has stalled and I don’t know what to do about it. That when I play the music doesn’t even sound like me anymore. That I need him in ways he doesn’t understand and I’m only just beginning to."

This book is SO erotic that I can't even begin to quote most of the scenes between Laszlo and Isabeau. He is so dominant but he is afraid to show his true side to his beautiful protégé. Isabeau is perfect for him but must show him that she is ready for his world.

"I’m not asking him to love me, touch me, take me to bed. What I want goes deeper than that. I have to speak it aloud for him because this is one thing that music won’t be able to tell him. I want what only a man like Laszlo can give me. I want to be his protégé again."

If you are looking for an adult, erotic romance that is beautifully written with memorable characters, then you will love 'The Protégé'. I really lost myself in this book and did not want it to end. And Laszlo, OMG!! What a powerful main character!

“Being a conductor is all about power and command and I have to rein myself in all the time from going on a massive power trip. I don’t like to rein myself in with you. I want to push you down onto your knees before me. I want to say the filthiest things to you... Make you feel more vulnerable than you’ve ever been in your life. Strip you bare until there’s nothing left for you but me and the power I have over you."

As you can tell, I adore Brianna Hale's writing and highly recommend this very sexy, very mature and erotic story. It is pure romance. Happy reading!

"Something in me matches something in you. When I hold you in my arms I feel everything that you are, and this is how I cherish you. You make me feel free.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Swoon Worthy!

oohh I so like New to me authors, so exciting to read and to get the feel of their style of writing. The Protégé was pleasantly entertaining and touched on a few different emotions.

The "forbidden" has always had a pull on most of us. You know its wrong but you can't help yourself from wanting and experiencing it.

The characters full of personality Isabeau the street waif young and talented eager to soak up everything. Laszlo the maestro intent on his teaching and pushing his Protege to be the best she can be. But things change as the years pass some good, some not so good and our little waif is a beauty and has grown into herself. Isabeau comes back to the "Teacher" grown up and full of life but yet still that waif of a girl.
Laszlo remarkable teacher raised a girl with the same intent and passion as had for teaching music, direct and intense, loving and passionate.

The novel is full length at the beginning it was a bit slow for me, then picked up. The Daddy Kink was all kinds of awesome though it surprised me it wasn't something totally thrown in your face, but I should have seen it coming. Loved it! There's a bit of a tickle in the story read it and see.

Now I enjoyed Isabeau's character, but I'd Would love to ask if Laszlo would be my book boyfriend? because of his intense yet passionate nature, the mix of heat, passion, and need. Just makes him incredibly swoon-worthy. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I reread it
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2019
When I first downloaded this book in kindle unlimited, I apparently missed half the book, so the parts I did read seemed more like a tell all of her relationship with her father and the letters, than any romance or dialogue between the main characters.
Anyway, I ended up giving the book a one star review because it was so short and lacked depth but had potential . When I read the story the first time and got to the epilogue and kept thinking this is it? Come to find out the story is almost 400 pages long and I was missing roughly 22 chapters from what I read.

Long story short I was sent a copy of the book and sure enough when I started the reread it was completely different than what I had read. The original copy I downloaded started with Isabeau knocking at the London door and then I managed to skip some more chapters and end up in a bar with lazlo and his friend. The depth and connection I was missing the first time around was in all the chapters I some how missed. I don’t know if it’s because there is no table of contents listed when you open the book or a format issue, either way I almost missed out on a great read!
