Gregg Dunnett is a writer of singular skill. He has made a kid who is very likely somewhere on the Asperger's/autism spectrum remarkably entertaining. Billy is engaging even though his particular view of the world makes life singularly uncomfortable for those more versed in social niceties. Maybe his utter honesty about what is real and what is not, what is true and what is not, show an integrity that the world is sadly lacking these days. Maybe all that arty social commentary is just tosh and what I really enjoy is the rattling good yarn. Whatever it is, count me in for Billy's next adventure, please Gregg.
I love this series and all the characters, especially Billy Wheatley! This third book (but hopefully not the last) was the most complex and exciting. The combination of the Australia portion and the Lornea Island portion was brilliantly blended - I couldn't imagine how they were going to mesh. But Gregg Dunnett made it happen seamlessly, and boy, was it a wild ride! All the intricate little details all came together to create a really satisfying read. I will definitely be reading everything Gregg writes and I know I won't be disappointed. I look forward to the day Billy shows up again too. Loved it!
Loving this series. This book is a little different from the first two. Billy wants to stop bring a detective and focus on his marine biology work. He gets picked to to you Australia with several other older students to do research for a to show. A big opportunity for all of them. Of course Billy ends up going home early after finding things not as they should be. While he was away his friend Amber gets a boyfriend who isn’t who he pretends to be putting everyone in danger. It a wild ride to the end of the book over what happens. If you have read the first two don’t stop now grab it and keep the journey going.
I wasn't sure if I would like this one as much as the previous two. I liked the initial storyline, and was slightly disappointed when it segued into the next plot. Without giving it away, I'm kind of jaded with the who!e: give me my drugs back or else kind of books. I wasn't sure how well it would work. But as I read on I started enjoying the characters, and of course, Billy and his black and white view of right and wrong, not old enough to be corrupted by life yet. So I did enjoy it very much, and am looking forward to the next book!
Having befriended the inimitable young hero of the first two books in this series, I wondered how conceivable it would be to watch him "grow up" into teenage years. The characterization blossoms even further and convincingly so, even as the highly successful mix of humor, suspense and near terror continues. Glad to hear a hint in the final paragraphs and in the afterword that there may well be another volume to come. . .
I could hardly wait to start this book and enjoyed the entire read. The only downside is that I’ve now finished all three and want more. I loved the progression of age in the three books. Billy’s character, although growing up, was consistent from start to finish. I’ve now read 5 books by this author and will read more. The books all have lots of great story and his ending have been so exciting in each book. I can’t give enough praise for his works. I love to read and these are among the best.
Thanks Gregg, another great book. Having enjoyed the first two Rockpools this was just as good as the first two. Billy is a little older but just as wise and smart as ever. Its really great how Gregg seems to really get into the mind of an "almost 16 yr old". The characters are realistic and the story lines exciting. A really good book for anyone who enjoys a fast paced mystery.
Book 3 of Rockpools. I’m really hoping this is not the end of Billy which I don’t think it is. If you’ve read the first two, you will definitely enjoy this one as well, but if you’ve just managed to grab this one first, don’t worry about it, they are all good and can stand in their own. Billy does manage to get himself in some messes and he is is so endearing, you can’t help but really appreciate his integrity! Excellent read!
Aces, Gregg Dunnett! You've done it again! What a great read. I was engaged from the beginning to the end. Once Billy left Australia, I knew that story line was not finished and I tried to guess how it would end up. I guessed wrong! Gregg has brought all the characters to life and I look forward to more adventures with Billy! I highly recommend all 3 books in the Rockpools series. You won't be disappointed!
