Pure Vengeance, is book #1 in Lori Ryan's new 'On the Line Romantic Thriller Series'. Although, honestly I'd probably classify it as less romantic suspense, and more of a crime drama, suspense/mystery story. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, I liked and identified with both of the main characters, Cal, a police detective, and Eve, an FBI agent. There was lots of action, mystery, and suspense surrounding a case they are both assigned to about a serial sniper dubbed 'the vigilante'. There were also interesting side characters and other issues addressed in the story such as sexual harassment in the workplace, and difficult emotional after-effects of incidents both for civilians and police detectives.
But the actual romance part was just a little too rushed for me because while there was some attraction apparent between our two heroes, it was kept to a minimum throughout the story due to them not wanting to get involved while working together. But then in the last few pages, it moved very quickly right into sex, I love you's, and talk of future babies.
All in all, I'd give the story 3.5 stars, because although it was light on the romance part it was a good who-done-it. It took me almost until the end to figure out the villain, and I usually get it much sooner. So if what you're looking for is a good mystery, suspense, cop/FBI drama, Pure Vengeance is the book for you.
Note: I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for my honest review.
