5.0 out of 5 starsAn Outstanding Anthology
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 15, 2019
This is one of the best anthologies of horror stories I've ever read. The 25 stories herein are a well-rounded group of tales that should please every fan of horror. You'll find everything from the hauntingly sad to the downright tragic, and a little spooky to the downright terrifying. There's a bit of the grotesque, a little mystery, and a good heaping of bad people getting their just rewards.

Here's some of the standouts:

"Tug O'War" by Chad Lutzke. This is one of two tales that after reading them, I had to put the book down for a while. Lutzke's story is heartbreakingly sad, and the climax left me stunned. Absolutely stunned.

The other one that hit me really hard was the final story of the volume, "Portrait" by Kealan Patrick Burke. When I finished his tale, I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me and I just sat there in silence. Kenneth W. Cain, the editor, was smart in making this the last story of the anthology. It's a very fitting end to a great collection of tales, and I do recommend saving it for last. You'll see when you read it.

"The Glimmer Girls" by Kenneth McKinley reminded me of the old show, "Tales From the Crypt." When I got to the climax of that tale, I could almost hear the Cryptkeeper laughing in fiendish glee. Read it and you'll see what I mean.

If you like some real scares, "Russian Dollhouse" by Jason Parent will be right up your alley. In my opinion, it's the scariest in the book.

"New Blood, Old Skin" by Glenn Rolfe, oddly enough, might be my favorite of the collection. It's not the most powerful or the scariest tale here, not the hardest hitting at all, but it really resonated with me. I don't want to say anything else here, as I hate to give away anything from a story thereby lessening the experience; personally, it really spoke to me.

Those are just a few of what's great about this anthology. I can honestly say I enjoyed reading all the stories. I'm sure everyone who reads it will have their favorites, of course, but there wasn't a single bad or weak story here. I felt like I got my money's worth and then some. I recommend this volume to all horror fans.

Disclaimer: I purchased this book for my Kindle, but I also received an electronic advance release copy of the anthology, courtesy of Silver Shamrock Press, in exchange for an honest review. They gave me no monies or any other form of compensation for my review, and the opinions stated herein are my own.

Do not understand the appeal.
I was excited for anything by Robert McCammon, but even his short story was disappointing.
I cant say any of the stories contained within piqued my interest or sparked any sort of emotion aside from boredom.

First off, I enjoyed the entire book but of course, some of the very short stories are better than others. I've never read an anthology of 'ghost stories' before but got the book after reading "Boys Life" by Robert McCammon which was superb. I wanted to read more of his work among others. His story in the book was very good and unique.
Of those most memorable and at the top of my list:
Russian Dollhouse: unsettling, gory, scary, the best of the lot.
Join my Club: sad and moving, very short but unforgettable.
Haunted World (McCammon): great style and very unique premise.
None of the stories are poor, a very nice compilation and for me, an introduction to newer authors of this kind of story telling. 4.5 out of five.

Most of the short stories are pretty good. The book itself is well made.

All in all I enjoyed the whole book. Several stories really resonated and were my type of horror. Good anthology if you like that sort of thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great anthology!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 7, 2020
Midnight in the Graveyard is quite a large anthology of horror stories. Clocking in at 408 pages for the paperback and 445 for the kindle version, this is one compilation of stories that will bust any boredom you may have. It almost reads like a whos-who of horror: Kealan Patrick Burke, Alan M. Clark, John Everson, Chad Lutzke, and Glenn Rolfe are just a few of the names gracing the cover. Among them is a bevy of horror newcomers with stories just as exceptional.

The stories inside this volume are sure to give even the harshest horror critic something to smile about. Ranging from despondency and despair to ghastly and grim, this work of spooky stories would indeed be perfect for midnight in the graveyard, if reading by the graves of the unquiet dead in the wee hours attracts you. Beckoning the wary reader into this collection of turbulent tales is a forward by Johnathan Janz warning us that "these ghosts are hungry" and boy, are they!

There were so many great stories, it was hard to choose favorites. The Glimmer Girls by Kenneth McKinley was a frightful tale to read, with a historical basis in the radium girls of the 1910s' who were told to tip their brushes with their lips to paint the dials of watches. (Perfectly safe.) Tug O War by Chad Lutzke, in which friends hold a deathbed vigil, was completely and unexpectedly dark. Ghost Blood by Kelli Owen was a surprise, telling of a very unique ability. Join My Club by Somer Canon was impassioned and creepy as stories with children can only be. As for "bad" reads, there were none, proving that this is an anthology that will be hard to top...but I hope Silver Shamrock tries.

Midnight in the Graveyard by Robert McCammon -- 4 Stars
Silver Shamrock Publishing
ISBN: 9781951043025

What caught my attention was the name Robert McCammon. I’ve been a long time fan of his writing and the one story of his that is included in the book does not disappoint. The other stories are entertaining. There are lots of ghosts and surprising conclusions. Each story is unique. The collection is spooky and a little scary. Its release is perfectly timed for Halloween. Like all anthologies, some stories are really good and others are okay, but all were fun to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A creepy, crawly collection of horror stories that you are bound to love.

Usually I am not the biggest fan of short stories simply because I like to get invested in not only a good story, but the characters as well. So far I have really enjoyed all the books I've read from Silver Shamrock Publishing so I decided to give this one a shot. I'm happy I did because I really liked it.
As with any collection of stories, I had a few favorites, a couple that weren't really my type and quite a few that I really enjoyed along the way.
I would recommend for both short story and horror lovers.
