This book was completely not what I expected. In a good way. I loved seeing the Chosen back together. Ivy and Ether together sniping at each other will always be a joy. The Villian of this book is what was so surprising. Seeing friends fight. Seeing Deacon prove to be a match for 4 of the Chosen plus their allies together. Seeing the surprise return of a hero save the day. The painful loss of that hero again. This book really had everything. I can't wait for more adventures in this world.
Above all else I've learned from this series, is Joseph's ability to bring life to characters through conflict and complexity. Both internally and externally, he's created characters in such a way that we can share in their emotions. While, much like Deacon, I didn't find all the answers I was looking for in this book, I'm happy even if this is the end of our tale.
The Coin of Kenvard is in my view one amazing story, especially the ending. And I have to say, its sad to see the stories of the five chosen, Myranda, Ivy, Ether, Myn, and Lain, come to an end. But the pieces are now in place for next era to take root. I look forward with excitement to see where the author will take the story next in the Book of Deacon universe.
Wow! The Book of Deacon is one of the best series I've read! The Coin of Kenvard completes the series and ties up several loose ends. Like, what became of the evil Turiel? What ended up happening with Genara and Desmesres? These and other questions I had after reading the series, have been very satisfactorily answered. Joseph Lallo is a very talented author. While I have not read his other series, Book of Deacon is most definitely a must for any fan of SciFi/Fantasy! The series follows Miranda and the other Chosen, thru many trials and many triumphs. Mr. Lallo weaves a truly fascinating tale of heroes and villains thru the pivotal time of the perpetual war and then peace, magic, prejudice against races; heroes pitted against each other and paying the price for it. Read these books, you won't be sorry. They will keep you riveted, until you know what becomes of them all! I only wish that Mr. Lallo would carry on with the Book of Deacon, with the heirs of the original Chosen!
