Okay, but she's better suited to other genres. Nelson Riddle arrangements are topnotch!

I had fallen in love with this album years ago and hadn't listened to it until I recently purchased it on CD. Hearing Ronstadt sing these beautiful Nelson Riddle arrangements after so long a time made me realize that it was the arrangements which were the most captivating feature of the album, not so much Linda Ronstadt. Being away from her voice for so long and subsequently hearing some of the new, up and coming ballad, jazz, and torch singers like Jane Monheit, Diana Krall or Cheryl Bentyne, I am more aware now of the brash-sounding style of the "Stone Pony" girl. Her style does not lend itself to the genre as did the earlier singers like, Ella Fitzgerald, Jo Stafford, June Christy, Keely Smith, Martha Tilton, or Helen Forrest.
Happily, Linda Ronstadt recorded a delightfully authentically Mexican album, "Canciones de mi Padre", on which her earthy, passionate quality can really shine. For any fan of Mexican style, she performs admirably.
