When I was sixteen I heard this recording in the living room of friends house sitting next to a cold fireplace. I could provide more details of the event; it was one of those times one feels they are hearing music, as opposed to merely listening. I was young. What it appealed to then was a deep novelty that in turn grew into an appreciation of the phenomena of what had happened musically. In the intervening decades of hearing classical and popular music, this recording has only grown in complexity and emotional depth. Of course, the vinyl recording disintegrated, the CD replacements were often lent and borrowed away and then for several years seemed unavailable. This digital remastering while lacking some of the charm of its more fragile predecessor is worth all the attention you will give it.
