How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat price if you insist on Canon inks
Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2009
I have two Canon printers, an i960 and an i9900. They both use the BCI-6 ink carts. We've used these printers for the past 4-5 years and have had excellent results. The i960 is a photo printer, but does not include the Red and Green inks that the i9900 uses. We use the i960 for general purpose printing and color snapshots. For my professional work, I use the i9900 only with Canon inks. I had to replace the print head last year, but it only cost me about $85.00. I NEVER had any clogging problems with either printer, even when I don't use them for weeks. The reason why I like these printers so much is that you have some flexibility with re-filling the ink cartridges. I purchased a re-fill kit from Sam's Club a few years ago (I haven't found them there recently). The design of the Canon cartridges allow you to re-fill them with 3rd party inks rather easily, once you get the hang of it. Refilling is sort of a crap-shoot.... you can damage a printhead by using inferior inks, and your color may not be the most accurate. I don't encourage my friends to re-fill, but we have saved lots of money on ink for the i960. The i9900 is another matter. This is a pro-quality printer and I just don't want to mess with it and 3rd party inks. So I stay with Canon inks, and Amazon is generally the only place I buy my cartridges. Buying them in the 6 and 8-pack sets is the most economical method. If you can get them for $9.00 or less, it's a good buy.

Update Tip: For a few years, I've been taking my empty BCI-6 cartridges to Staples, where they will give you $2.00 per cartridge (up to $20). When you get the Reward coupon, you can use it at Staples to by any of their products. We generally get a few packages of the Keurig coffee. So, essentially, you can deduct $2 off the price you're paying for the cartridge if you utilize this re-cycle/Reward program.

I received these loose in a box but still with the Cannon Inner Seal. However one leaked and the print quality is poor after replacing all. It is our secondary printer so will just junk it but I can not swear that these are no refill units as there was zero out packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars I only use Canon ink
Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2019

I have had my Canon i960 printer since December 2003. It used to be my photo printer but I only use it to print documents now, and sometimes don't have to print for a month at a time. Its the only printer I have ever had that never clogs or has any problems whatsoever even if sitting for a couple of months. I have only ever used the Canon brand ink. Its not cheap but it has never failed me. When I used this printer for photos the prints always looked great on top quality paper. I don't think there are any printers made in the past several years that use the BCI-6 cartridges, so I guess its a matter of time before you can't get them anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little expensive, but consistent HIGH quality
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2017

I learned a LONG time ago that one MUST use Canon ink in a Canon printer unless you're willing to settle for much less than good results when you're printing. While expensive, it lasts a long time (for me), and consistently gives me the flawless results on Canon paper (also a little more money) I need when I'm printing photos. If you're OK with just ok results, buy the cheap knock off ink and bargain priced paper. If you want the super high quality as I do, Canon ink and paper for Canon printers is the ONLY way to go.

I must say, this is a great value for original Canon ink cartridges. I think they are like $12 to $13 each at best buy or circuit city. I found a couple at sam's club for $9.90 a piece but that's still not as cheap and i couldn't get every color.

Also, I've tried the cheap generic ink cartridges and they simply don't work. Ink is one of those things that is worth paying the extra money for and buying from the manufacturer. The cheap ones dry up quickly or leak all over the place and streak, potentially ruining your printer.

I've gone through two sets of these so far in my printer and they have worked flawlessly all the way to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon BCI-6 color ink tanks, 6 pack set
Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2014

Really strange thing is the BOX the Ink Tank package came in had been 'slit open' on top (the metallic seal
tape had been sliced) and the box flaps were completely open when I found this item in my Mailbox. It was
sent to me Fedex smartpost...where fedex brings it to your town and delivers it to your post office....who then
deliver it to your mailbox. So, who knows who opened the box....one scraggly (popped) plastic balloon inside
but the Canon Ink Tank Cartridge was perfect in its excellent package. Is Homeland Security doing this kind
of thing ?(you could hear the ink tank package bounce around when shaking main box package).
Aldous Huxley wrote of a "Brave new World" and perhaps its upon us now? The Canon Ink tanks were great.

What can I say? I've had my Canon Pixma iP6000D for years and years and I've had nothing but Original Canon Ink in it. I've never had a problem and my prints are great. Some other ink might be OK to use but, I'm not willing to give it a try. I haven't had any problems and I don't want any problems. It's so easy to buy what I need anytime I need it from Amazon. The price is as good as anywhere and it will be at your door in no time. Don't take a chance on your printer. Buy the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is no substitute for quality
Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2012

I've tried a few different cheaper brand inks for my canon printer and they do alright for basic paper printing but if you want to print photos or high quality products you need the original ink. I tried printing photos and pics with off brands and wondered what was wrong with my printer but the ink just didn't hold up on glossy paper...so I decided to use the cheaper ink for regular printing and bust out the canon ink of higher quality printing (I just keep the plastic ink holders).

Canon ink is an exceptional ink... Vibrant colors with little or no fading over time. I use it primarily for photo printing.

I've tried many "compatable" inks and have not been satisfied.. The ones I've tried had good color, but faded over time. They have also clogged my printer with regularity. In my estimation, it's the old "you get what you pay for..."

Not that any ink is cheap. I've done my homework and this Canon Multi-Pack thru Amazon is the best deal I could find...
